About Alaska:

Alaska Holiday Information and Travel Guide to Alaska.

Alaska, Alaska, Alaska!!! Land of superlatives!!!! This state is vast – it is well over half a million square miles in size! That would take some effort to cover for the average morning jogger. There is so much isolated territory here that is unreachable by car that usual methods of land travel lose their value.

Imagine being able to go your entire holiday without necessarily having to see a car!! Walk in the wilderness and see the wildlife that thus far has only existed for you in documentaries. See wild bears and huge salmon, see migrating Humpback whales or visit the 20,000+ foot Mt McKinley. Small planes are the taxis of the region, so take a flight and understand the vastness of this region. It has had many influences from native tribes through Russian – it was actually purchased from Russian interests in 1867 and is so large that the climate and flora and fauna vary massively. It is split into several distinct regions. Choose a wild and remote holiday or vacation rental here.

Inside Passage is a beautiful region of fjords and islands full of amazing wildlife and beautiful scenery. It is home to the massive Tongass National Forest, the northern most rainforest in the US. Within the region are areas designated as wilderness and so protected from humanisation. There are several national parks such as Glacier Bay and Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. Make holiday or vacation rentals that bring you closer to the Inside Passage. It is home to several tribes of Native American Indians including the Tlingit and Haida. There is so much to see and do  in terms of wildlife from bears through fishing through whales. There's an abundance of different birds including Bald Eagles for those who love bird watching. Also, because of the many islands, a novel way of getting around and seeing what is there is kayaking and canoeing.

Northern Alaska is a hugely diverse area with geography varying from coastal plains to mountain regions. It is home to the Inupiat Eskimos who live a subsistence existence. The winters are hard and long with dwindling daylight but is overrun with wildlife in the summer months. There are caribou and many different species of bear as well as a plethora of birdlife which still help maintain an ancient way of life. The are is so remote that it can only realistically be reached by small aircraft from further south.

Interior Alaska has a wonderful mix of things to do and see. Denali National Park contains Mount McKinley at over 20,000 feet. Most people have heard of the famous northern Lights and these are easily seen in this region. Fairbanks itself is a gold rush town and there is still gold fever about today!! The famous Yukon river flows through and there are all sorts of activities that can be undertaken from skiing and golfing through snowmobiling and dog sled riding. This is not to mention the wildlife which is again rich and diverse – oh and utterly mind blowing!!

Southwestern Alaska again is a veritable feast of wildlife and adventure. Think wolves, bears and caribou. Think whales, killer whales and sea-lions. Think nature reserves, volcanoes and earthquakes. Thinking hiking, kayaking and rafting. Think fishing and
