Englewood, Florida is a small, laid-back, seaside town on the Gulf of Mexico. It is located 6 miles south of Venice, between Sarasota, 35 miles to the north, and Ft Myers, 60 miles to the south. Englewood is a quiet, unspoiled community of about 35,000 set beside Lemon Bay and protected by Manasota Key. Englewood is old Florida, offering miles of long sandy beaches, great fishing and boating, lots of golf courses and a selection of excellent local restaurants. There are no highrises anywhere in Englewood.
Englewood’s temperatures run in the mid to low 70’s (23C) in the winter. In the 80’s(29C) in the spring and fall, and in the high 80’s or low 90’s (32C) in the summer. The rainy season runs from July through September. The rain is usually predictable as it rains mostly in the mid to late afternoon, usually for a short time, or at night.
Both Sarasota County and Charlotte County (Englewood sits in both) are renouned for their nature parks and preserves. You can get up close and personal with Florida’s flora and fauna. There are two nature parks in town, the 88 acre Cedar Point with four miles of trails, canoe launch and picnic areas, and Lemon Bay Park which covers 204 acres of Pine and scrubby Flatwoods along a natural bay shoreline. You will discover picnic sites and nature trails, and it is home to American Bald Eagles and a variety of local birds. This is a marvelous place to take time out of a busy vacation and relax. Classes and guided bird and butterfly walks are available. There are many other State and County parks within a one hour drive, all offering hiking and bird watching.
The area is wonderful for boating and fishing, and a kayak center is located 9 miles south of town, in the village of Placida. You can explore the mangrove tunnels, and see rare birds, either on your own or on a guided tour. There are several marinas in town where you can rent boats, jet skis or paddle boats. Local captains offer deep-sea or bay fishing trips.
Golf courses abound. There are more than twenty courses in the immediate area. Three are in Englewood and five more close by in Rotunda.
There are five major beaches with facilities: Stump Pass State Park at the south end of Manasota Key. Englewood Beach with its Boardwalk and picnic and games facilities close to town and many beach restaurants and bars; uncrowded Middle Beach; and Manasota Beach at the north end, with free parking, boat launch and lifeguards.
Visit the interesting artist's galleries and boutiques on Dearborn St.in Olde Englewood Village You will finds most everything you need right in Englewood, but there are variety of major shopping malls within a half hour drive in Sarasota or Port Charlotte.. Major attractions in the area are the Ringling Museum in Sarasota (.45 mins), Busch Gardens and the Florida Aquarium in Tampa (1.5 hrs) Orlando’s attractions, Disney, Sea World, Universal Studios etc (2.5 hrs) and Kennedy Space Center (3.5 hrs).
Vacationers come to Englewood, because of its relaxed style, because you can do everything or nothing at all, but mainly because oif its weather, it laid back feeling and its lovely beaches.
Access by car is via I-75, exit 93 to Jacaranda Blvd, or Exit 91, River Rd. Access by air is into Tampa (TPA) or Regional South West International (RSW) near Fy Myers Airports, about 1.5 hours drive, or Sarasota (SRQ) or St.Pete/Clearwater (PIE) at 45 minutes or 90 minutes respectively. Rental car which are available at all airports, or in Venice near by.
