BLOOMFIELD, CT is a bedroom town of the Connecticut State capitol, Hartford. It lies just to the north of Hartford.
Bloomfield is the home of CIGNA insurance company and MET LIFE.
Its most recent additions are two wonderful golf courses.
The world renowned golf designer, Pete Dye for one dollar, designed the WINTONBURY HILLS GOLF COURSE as a civic gesture to the Town of Bloomfield.
It is located on a former dairy farm in the north part of Town. All who play the course find it challenging and interesting. There is a new club house serving food and drinks and residents of the Town are given special rates.
The second new golf course is designed by Arnold Palmer and is called GILLETTE RIDGE GOLF COURSE. It is fast becoming a top notch course and is a little more difficult that the Pete Dye course. The women's junior PGA has an annual tournament there.
Bloomfield is close to downtown Hartford ( 10-12 minutes) and to its southern neighbor, West Hartford ( 4 to 8 minutes ). Bloomfield is the home of the 90 year old Tumble Brook Country Club, one of the most prestigious private country clubs in the sate, and is also the home to the large, popular Jewish Community Center, which has a large pool, gym, fitness club, health club and kiddy park.
The University of Hartford campus is mostly located in Bloomfield.
Two new shopping/dining centers with fine, popular restaurants were recently constructed in Bloomfield and a fine community of new homes around the new Gillette Ridge Golf Course, is a great success.
Bloomfield is a short trip to Bradley International Airport, only 20 minutes.
It is within 15 minutes to many fine restaurants, wonderful shops, banks, sports facilities, indoor and outdoor tennis, indoor and outdoor swimming, hiking, biking, sailing, gyms, health clubs, and cross country skiing. Bloomfield is 15 minutes from the famous West Farms Mall, Hill Steade Museum and the UCONN Health Center. It is 1 hour from good down hill skiing and 1 and 3/4 hrs from Vermont skiing.
Bloomfield sits in the center of 5 famous Connecticut Prep Schools, Miss Porter's School, in Farmington, Avon Old Farms School, in Avon, Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, Westminster School in Simsbury and Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor.
It is 12 minutes from Trinity College, 45 minutes to Wesleyan University, 1 hour to Yale University and to the Connecticut shore area.
Bloomfield is 1 hour from the Berkshires, home to the world famous Tangelwood. It is 50 minutes from Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos.
