L'Ametlla is a small working fishing port with a charming air of authenticity ,the fish is auctioned on the Port every Monday to Friday at 4-30. There are more than 12 sandy coves and a town beach with a European blue flag. Round the Port and in the town there are many restaurants most specialising in fresh fish ,steaks , local duck and of course Paella. There are excellent promenades,boat trips,scuba diving and during the high season there is a programme of sporting events,open air music, dancing, art and painting activities arranged by the local council.
The train goes to Barcelona frequently and is cheap and reliable. The Universal Studio theme park Port Aventura is 30 kilometres away or 3 stops on the train.Near to L'Ametlla is the Ebro Delta National Park the second biggest wetland in Europe and famed for it's pink flamingos and over 400 other bird species. The area is also prized by fishermen for huge catfish. Boats and equipment can be hired. This area also offers miles of sand dunes and is especially good for wind surfing and wind sailing. There are beautiful inland mountain trips to see hand potters at work or the Picasso museum where he spent the first 2 years of his painting life. There are 4 world class golf courses or the sophistication of high class shops in nearby Reus the birthplace of the architect Gaudi.
Ryanair and other budget airlines fly into Reus half an hours journey away or into Barcelona an easy journey straight down the motorway.
