Situated up in the north-east of Lanzarote, Guatiza is surrounded by a wall of cactus plants. This is what makes the town so unique, as it is known that there are 1500 different types of cactus plants in the area.
Guatiza is also well known for its architecture which most of which was designed by the famous architect Cesar Manique, who designed the Great Santa Magarita chapel.
Although Guatiza is still on the beautiful coast line, you can always walk down the beach and check out a bit more of the coast line to places such as Punta- Mujeres where we have many private villas or even Costa Teguise where we have many self catering apartments.
Much of the architecture is made from red brick which brings out a lot of uniqueness of the town the red brick comes from the quarry of the town which is one of the biggest tourist attractions of the island, there is also another sandstone quarry close by. However the main attraction of the town is the huge cactus garden which attracts all sorts of people as there is just something so special about it.
The town actually used to be two separate villages but joined together in the 16th century because of the moor pirates kept on attacking on one of the sides, and there is still a lot of damage on that side which are still worth taking a look at. One of the biggest exports of the town is the beetle juice, which is mainly exported into England and used for fruit juice smoothies and also a very popular mixture for some of the famous cocktails so your bound to manage to get some fabulous cocktails out there. There are many beach restaurants and bars which are all really nice and popular but with all the local markets selling all local foods there's no need as you can always just chill out in your private self catering property after a big day of site seeing and water sports which are on offer you can just have your own style of local foods as a nice meal.
