The island of Capri is probably one of the most spectacular islands in the world. Famous people have chosen it as their home not only because of its beautiful surroundings, its moderate climate but also because of its magical atmosphere. Today it has become a popular tourist resort and to visit it on a day trip alone is to get a completely wrong impression.
Capri is all about walking along the narrow alleyways, looking through gates into magical subtropical gardens with breathtaking views over the azure Mediterranean sea; exploring the archeological sites where the Roman emperor Tiberius had many of his villas; enjoying an aperitif, at sunset, in the famous piazzetta while people watching and rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous; visiting St James' monastery after hours and listening to memorable concerts held in its courtyard surrounded by the elegant and sophisticated; taking the chairlift to the top of the island and then walking down the mountain path surrounded by bushes of broom, rosemary and myrtle or hiking along the coastal path of Anacapri, an outdoor museum with its many hand painted tiles describing plants of botanical interest and the historical events that took part here (one being the battle between Nelsen and Murat).
A boat trip around the island is a must; there are lots of small boats to hire with or without sailors; grottoes to explore, secluded bays with crystal clear water to snorkel around and an incredible coastline that is best appreciated from the sea.
Often guests will leave after a week with a list of places still to visit and things to do and a strong yearning to return as soon as possible, it’s known as 'the island fever'.
While on the Island of Capri, take the time to see the some of the other great places to see. There's short term rental villas on the Island of Ischia, or you could try a vacation rental apartment on the Island of Procida.
