About Holiday Rentals in Basilicata - Find Holiday Homes & Villas for Rent in Basilicata, Europe:

Imagine yourself sipping a cold drink down in beautiful Basilicata, in sunny, Southern Italy, located on the “instep” of the “boot” of Italy as people call it, the area has many charms and things to delight the visitor.

The whole area is a literally steeped in ancient history, including the new Unesco World Heritage site at Matera where people lived 5000 years BC. There are temples where slaves trained for and planned an uprising against the ancient Empire of Rome, and castles and forts, and mountain hideaways where the indiginous people hid from just about every marauding army imaginable!, including the Etruscans, Romans, Normans, Arabs, the list goes on and on for this well fought over area.

Sitting in amongst ancient olive and orange groves, pine forests and oaks, the whole area is a real rural retreat. You are never far from beautiful open beaches on empty seas, you are usually less than an hour from mountains in the various National Parks, many of which have ski-ing during the winter, and never far shopping in the nearest hilltop towns.

As a resident here for five years, I can attest to the warmth and the welcome from the people of the area, and they are just as curious to know about you, as you are about them!
Folks will stop you in the street and speak to you, ask you how you are, what you are up to, and where you are going, it is lovely. The warmth of the people is reflected in their foods too. All of the Basilicatan recipies and sturdy and wholesome, home cooked, and above all, fresh. The vegtables that you buy in the shops are normally fresh on the day that you buy them. The meats are superb, and the local wines are fearsome!

T o sum up, Basilicata is a place that can only really be described as a hidden gem, within an undiscovered area.

This REALLY is the most lovely place to spend time…. Come and see it!
