Known as the whale-watching capital of Europe, Husavik offers regular tours out into the Skjálfandi bay where three hours will let you see humpback whales, and sometimes even the great blue whales. There are even some tours that let you see the bird life of the area, such as the puffins that live on the nearby Lundey island. After your trip you can look around the Húsavík Whale Museum to learn more about these amazing creatures.

Once you've had your fill of whales, there's still plenty to do with a privately owned chalet in Husavik. The city is the start of the “Diamond Ring Road”, a round trip journey that takes you through some of the amazing sites in this area of Iceland. You'll need several days to truly explore all the road has to offer, but it's well worth the time.
