Grimaud is a relatively rural area dominated by the Massive des Maures which is a range of hills running along the back of the coast from Roquebrune to Lavandou.
Just minutes from the busy coast road running round the Golfe de St Tropez they create a different world of calm and tranquility.
Excellent for walking and mountain biking, a good map is essential as its easy to get lost.
Grimaud is a delightful village with tiny narrow streets running down from the ruins of the castle.
In Spring and Summer the flowers are amazing with wonderful smells to greet the visitor. It has a good selection of restaurants, an excellent bakery and a weekly market on the boules pitch.
The road up to La Garde Freinet has been recently improved and it takes the visitor up to the town perched on top of the hill before the road descends down to meet the autoroute. La Garde Freinet has a different feel to Grimaud as it has more shops and businesses.
The main shopping street is pedestrianised and there are many cafes lining the road. Between the two villages are a number of small roads leading to many lovely houses, some of which are to rent in the summer months.
Grimaud is an excellent area for people who want to be in the countryside yet near to the sea and the beaches.
