Known as "the castle so strong it defends itself" the Château de Foix is home to the collections of the Ariège départemental museum, which tells the history of Ariege from ancient times.
With a privately owned farmhouse in Foix you can easily go out and explore the local area. Just south of Foix you can find the caves in Niaux, home of some amazing pre-historic art, an unmissable chance to look into the past. You're also a short trip away from the town of Mirepoix, which features the beautiful 13th Century home Maison des Consuls and is also located right on the Hers-Vif River giving you great access to all forms of water activities including kayaking, rafting and sailing. Also close by is the lovely little hamlet of Vallee du Douctouyre, a great place for walking or biking across the serene French countryside.
