This land locked region of France is where the Limousin breed of cattle comes from. It is rural France at its most rural and is full of the most wonderful, meandering, country roads in which you can forget time and the pressures of modern day living.

From the Massif Central in the northeast to the Dordogne valley in the south it has some of the most relaxing and enjoyable rural scenery. But it is not all gentle relaxation. For the more adventurous there is the exhilaration of the Correze region of Limousin. A secret pearl in France this area is geared up for the outdoorsman. There are lakes and rivers to provide all kinds of water sports. Rafting is a feature of this area and there are plenty of different levels to overcome. With water skiing and jet skiing available on some of the lakes you are due an adrenalin explosion on your holiday or vacation rental. With so much water around canoeing is a great way to see the area. Of course you don’t have to be in the water to enjoy some of what this area has to offer: you can always get on your mountain bike and feel the rush of wind in you ears as you explore. Or perhaps you would like to see it from the air? Well why don’t you try hang gliding for an out of this world experience?!

This area also has a sadder side that was visited on it by the Nazis during the Second World War. Visit Oradour sur Glane and see a village that has been preserved as a mark of respect and remembrance of the atrocities that were visited upon it during 1944.

Limoges is the main city of Limousin and will be familiar to many for its fine china produce. In fact the Limousin area accounts for around half of French production of fine china.
