About Creissan Vacation Rental Homes.
Creissan, a very charming French village, lies between the mountains of the 'Parc Naturel', and the Mediterranean beaches, a 25-minute drive to either, and settled amongst vineyards as far as the eye can see, this is truly a unique setting for exploring this region, with rivers that cascade down to the sea, providing water activities, ranging from canoeing and rafting, to leisurely canal trips on the famous Canal du Midi.
Creissan provides a post office, bakers, grocers, florists, newsagents/tabac, hairdressers, bookshop, and a doctors, (there is a large supermarket and petrol station, 5 minutes drive away at Capestang).
There is a friendly bar providing refreshment, and gives you the chance to meet the locals, and brush up on your French. In the park, behind the Marie (town hall), there is a 25 metre communal swimming pool, a boules square, along with table tennis areas, and an open air theatre, showing intermittent performances, there are also tennis courts also in the village.
In the centre of the village is the old Chateau Creissan, dating back to the 11th century, and now housing a vigneron, supplying organic wines of distinction.
There is a large riding stables on the outskirts of Creissan, on the road towards Quarante, which caters for both novice and more experienced horse riders.
There are a variety of interesting amenities close to the village .....for example:
There are some very interesting markets in the outlying towns and villages, including a small Tuesday market in Creissan
There are a good selection of restaurants close to Creissan, usually situated in the villages nearby. or sign-posted on the roadside. you can visit the many roadside Cave Cooperatives (wine outlets), for sampling and purchasing of local wines at low prices, from around 80 cents per litre..... Not to be missed (there are 3 caves in Creissan Itself). A wine museum just off the Creissan/Quarante road at Roueyre, provides a very interesting insight into the production of regional, and national wines.
In July there is a 'vin festival' held in one of the parks, with music, food, and entertainment, lasting 3 days, which brings together the local community.
Although the population of Creissan is little more than 1000, this is altogether a thriving and active little village.
