Corsica is also known as the Island of Beauty. It is quite simply stunning. But it also offers so much more with a wealth of history and culture behind it. It has long been fought over and has a history of occupation dating back as far as anybody knows. The ancient Greeks occupied it for a long time but it has also been occupied by what is modern day Italy. The Pisans ruled over it for a period that was deemed a time of great cultural and artistic growth. It was also ruled by the Genovese for a period before finally being ruled from France. It is the birthplace to one of France’s most famous sons, Napoleon, and his birthplace is well worth a visit whilst you are here on your holiday or vacation rental.

The official language spoken here is French, but Corsican is widely used and probably resembles Italian more than French.

Being an island, Corsica offers a fantastic holiday for beach lovers. It has the full range of beach sports that the modern day beach goer expects. There is both wind and kite surfing and snorkelling is a feature of most beaches. In fact scuba diving has taken off in a big way here with visibility underwater often being as good as 35 metres!

Away from the coast Corsica has its fair share of highlands and walking or hiking through the foothills following old shepherd or mule tracks is a must for anybody who likes the great outdoors.

The architecture is splendid and typically Mediterranean and the gentle climate with long warm summers and relatively mild winters means it is a place that is great to visit just about all year round.

The food, as one expects with French regions, is superb and available in many splendid restaurants, although there is also a strong Italian influence due to the shared heritage.

Corsica really is a little gem for a holiday or vacation rental. It offers comfort, warmth, welcome and beauty and feels somehow separated from the normal frantic pace of western life.
