With Auvergne being the largest volcanic area in Europe this could be a little scary as the volcanoes are not extinct but they are Dormant and there has been no activity for over 7000 years, but there is plenty of volcanic activity going on under ground as is still seen by the hot springs at chaudes aigus in the cantal where the water comes out of the ground at 82 o'c.
The lakes are valleys which run through many of the spa town's are known to have all kinds of different healing qualities.
