Alsace, situated on the eastern boarder of France on the west bank of the upper Rhine adjacent to Germany and Switzerland.
Alsace which has been ruined by wars between France and Germany more times than anyone can remember, and has been switching hands between the 2 countries for over 75 years Nazi Germany were last in control from 1940-1944 and has been in the French hands ever since, which is why half speak French and half speak German, is very famous for it's vineyards, pork, castles and churches.
The main vineyard is 175km and known as Route des vins d' Alsace which runs from Marlenhiem to Yhann. The main churches in Alsace are Marmoutier Abbey and the temple saint Etienne, and the two main castles being The castle of spesbourg and the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle which was knocked down during one of the wars but was rebuilt in 1899 to carry on serving it's purpose which is to protect the wines and wheat routes which ran to the north and the silver and salt which routed from west to east. Strasbourg which is the largest city in Alsace is based directly between the Vosges mountains which has many beautiful green forests and the picturesque lake and the black forest.
With all this to see and not to mention all the sporting activities you can get involved in such as mountain biking, hiking, caving, skiing and golf, you'll never want to leave. There are also many other villages and towns which are all local to one another such as Colmar, where you will find the river Lauch which is also known as la petite Venise (little Venice) and the cathedral Eglise saint- martin. Riquewihr where you will be in one of the top 10 most beautiful villages in France, you will also come across the thieves tower where you can still see the torture chamber and the fountain of Gauging which was used to check the capacity of the wine barrels.And last but not least Saverne which is known for the Chateau neuf( new castle) where you can see the Rhine canal run through the foreground and the Rohan castle which was once home to the bishops of Strasbourg.
