There are plenty of lovely little shops, fantastic restaurants and stunning sea views. Old Nessebar is the successor to the ancient Thracian settlement called Messambria founded in the Second century AD. In 510 AD it was turned into Greek colony town by Dorian settlers and became a rival to the town of Apollo for the Black Sea trade. In 72 AD it was occupied by a Roman garrison. It is home to almost 40 preserved churches dating from the 11th to the 14 century.
A holiday in Bulgaria is good value for money with an average meal costing less than £5/€7.50 and a beer costing from 30p/50cents. As in most holiday destinations, prices do vary quite a bit, so it pays to shop around.
