Virginia was named after the English Queen, Elizabeth 1, who was also known as the Virgin Queen. The state is also known as the “Mother of Presidents”, as no less than eight US Presidents were born here – Woodrow Wilson, William Henry Harrison, George Washington, Zachary Taylor, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, John Tyler and James Monroe.Imagine staying in a vacation cabin with links to the President. Virginia was originally home to many different Native American peoples including the Cherokee and Rappahannock. The Spanish had some contact as early as 1565 before Sir Walter Raleigh arrived in 1584. Virginia played an integral part in the fight for independence and it was in the Battle of Yorktown that troops under the command of George Washington emerged victorious over the British, under the command of General Cornwallis. As well as the fight for independence, Virginia also played a pivotal role in the American Civil War. With all this history Virginia has an awful lot to offer any vacationer, whether you are looking to stay in a beach villa, rent a cabin or try a Virginia condo for your Virginia vacation rental. There are countless museums, trails and sites to visit to get a feeling for Virginia’s rich and diverse history. Visit the historic Triangle – Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. Here at Jamestown Settlement or Colonial Williamsburg you can get a real life feel for what life may have been like way back when, as you can see first hand how life would have been. But Virginia also has so much more to offer the vacationer. It has literally thousands of miles of coastline on the Atlantic Coast, ideal for a beach vacation rental villa. There are numerous fantastic beaches to visit all looked after to a high standard and mainly free to the visitor. There are plenty of things to do from the obvious water sports opportunities through go-carting, sand soccer, various arts and festivals and plenty of restaurants and shopping. This is not to mention the various State Parks and Wildlife Refuges. But there are also many other places for your beach or waterfront holiday. Visit the sister Islands of Chincoteague and Assateague. Whilst the latter is uninhabited it has some wonderful beaches whereas the former has no beaches but offers some lovely places to stay and eat. And all this without even touching on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay or Hampton. With the Appalachian Trail running through the state and many mountains it offers wonderful winter holidays too. With snowboarding, downhill skiing and cross country skiing there is so much to do and enjoy whether it is a beach house, villa, cabin or condo vacation rental in Virginia.
