Truckee is situated on the Californian side of Lake Tahoe which is based in-between California and Nevada. Each side of the lake is just as beautiful as the other, both being very well known and popular tourist attractions all year round.

Apart from the ski season, which is amazingly popular with all the lovely beautiful mountains, and the summer season, which is frightfully popular with all the water sports which are on offer the lake, Truckee is also another big attraction as it's one of the only lakes which doesn't lead into an ocean but leads the opposite direction and heads into the desert which is Nevada and up to Utah.

Lake Tahoe was formed over 2 million years ago during the ice age, and is the largest and second deepest lake in North America, so do not attempt swimming if you're not that confident. Areas that are situated around the lake include such places like Tahoe city, where there are many self catering cabins, and is also part of another lake, which is a special lake as it doesn't run into the ocean instead it runs into the desert of Nevada.

Lake Tahoe is a very well known and visited tourist attraction for those who are ski lovers, with the beautiful mountains that surround the area - and heli-skiing has just been allowed and has become hugely popular over the last few years. Being one of the most popular ski resorts in America Lake Tahoe becomes very busy during the winter season and during the summer you have just as many activities happening so it's basically busy all through out the year, however the weather is not always warm and can get quite chilly from time to time so be prepared for when you head out there.
