Puerto Del Carmen Vacation Rentals

If Lanzarote is the jewel in the Canary Island crown, then Puerto del Carmen must be the sparkle in the jewel. A town with two distinct personalities, it offers something for everyone.

The focal point of Old Town Puerto del Carmen is the fishing port. Still actively used by locals who sell their catch at various stores and markets, the harbour has been enhanced to offer facilities for other commercial boating – glass bottom boats, submarines, pleasure cruises, windsurfing, and water taxis. Restaurants of many varieties adorn the harbour, with outstanding views of the nearby island of Fuerteventura. Downtown Puerto del Carmen offers a wonderful, quiet beach, Playa Chica (little beach), which gets most of its use on Sundays from the local poplulation. A small cove protected by two lava flows ensure the water is almost always calm, and a great location for scuba diving.

New Town Puerto del Carmen is totally different. The three plus mile walk down the faster pace of the Avenida de las Playas (Avenue of the Beaches) offers a variety of Bars, Restaurants and Night Clubs that cater to all ages. The casino does a lively trade almost all hours of the day, and if you walk down some of the side roads you will find wonderful little bars where you can enjoy a glass of sangria where the surf crashes against the rocks. The beaches here are magnificent. You will have to be impressed by the miles of beautiful sand with lounge chairs shaded by striped umbrellas. Having just gone through a significant revitalization project, the busy street has been replaced with a wide, tree lined pedestrian walkway running adjacent to the ocean, and the resulting one way traffic system is extremely friendly to strolling pedestrians.

Puerto del Carmen is in a great location to enjoy everything Lanzarote has to offer, with buses to all tourist destinations leaving regularly.

If you wanted a little breather from the hustle and bustle then you can always go to some of the other local towns including Costa Teguise, which is another lovely coastal fishing town where there are many privately owned villas.

Or you could try a self catering apartment in Matagorda. There are many wild life parks which are a must visit and lots of water sports to choose from that's even if you want to leave the most amazingly beautiful golden sandy beaches.
