During the winter months they provide a wonderful platform for skiers of all levels, staying in ski chalets throughout the area. It is a great area for alpine skiing and snowboarding as well as cross-country skiing. When the winter is over and spring and summer months are beckoning then the landscape is freed from its overcoat of snow and provides hundreds of miles of picturesque walks and trails. Toulouse is the capital city of Midi-Pyrenees and as one of France’s larger cities is well worth a visit. It is nicknamed “Ville Rose” or “Pink City” due to the colour of its buildings and perches, resplendent on the Garonne River. This city certainly has a buzz about it and the locals certainly seem to carry themselves with a sense of pride. It is a huge University town and so has the impetus from fresh, young intellect and perhaps that would explain it being at the heart of France’s Aerospace Industry. Yet Toulouse has another side also which you will recognise if you take the time to take a stroll through the Old Quarter where you will feel that you have stumbled across a different time, its a lovely place to rent a holiday home.
Towards the north of Midi-Pyrenees there lie fertile plains which produce a lot of the regions crops which are diverse in type; from melons to maize and strawberries to tobacco. Wherever you go in this region you will stumble across amazing architecture in Cathedrals, churches, castles and chateaux. However the little country villages both on the plains and in the mountains are often what create a sense of nostalgia in the visitor here, with farmhouses and gites for rent throughout.
