About Bergerac:

On your vacation in the Dordogne, there is a great deal to do. The Perigord, for example, is a region of prehistory, rich in archaeological sites and grottoes, like the famous caves of Lascaux. You'll also find historiccastles, medieval cities, and ancient walled towns (called 'bastides').

And as for gastronomy ! You can try the local wines and "produits de terroir"(country fare) in the markets, at "ferme auberges"and in traditional restaurants and those of haute cuisine. Bergerac's wonderful Saturday market overflows with fruit and veg., fish and cheese, jam and honey and all kinds of charcuterie. The wines of St. Emilion, Bergerac, and Monbazillac must be tried on a visit to the numerous vineyards.

The countryside around Bergerac is ideal for dozens of interesting day-trips---Les Eyzies, Rocamadour, Saint Emilion, Domme, La Roque-Cajac, Beynac, Sarlat, and many others. The sea is only a 2 1/2 hour drive away.

There are concerts, street fairs, wine and produce tastings and night markets. You can bathe in the lakes, go horseback or carriage riding, fishing or canoeing.
