Huntington Beach, California... was recently named by the New York Post as one of the top five destinations for teenagers and their parents. Surf City is a favorite place for kids to not only eat and shop, but participate in many recreational sports. Also, Huntington Beach is consistantly ranked in the top 10 safest cities in america (population over 100,000). SURF (daily, esp. during summer) Most popular are surfing camps that specialize in teaching beginners to get into the water and onto a board. For the active youth, however, Huntington Beach has a reputation as an extreme sports venue and in the past several years, has been home to competitions such as Core Tour BMX and King of the Dirt Hill, US Open of Surfing and Beach Games ASP 6 Star Rating qualifier, ESPN X-Games surf competition with East meets the West, National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) Competition, Association of Volleyball Professional (AVP) Pro Beach Volleyball Competition, Hello Kitty Boardfest with Holly Beck, Serena Brooke Surf Camp and Van's Triple Crown of Skating. FISH (daily) Also, you don't need a license to fish on California piers. You do need a California Fishing License elsewhere, however. BONFIRES ON THE BEACH (daily) Temps. at the beach change very little from season to season. On most evenings in Huntington Beach, California, you can smell the wood burning from campfires at Huntington's three beaches, Huntington City Beach, Bolsa Chica State Beach and Huntington State Beach. All three have cement fire rings offered for free use on a first come first serve basis. The campfire tradition lives on from generation to generation in this time honored celebration that brings families, friends and business associates together in a circle, huddled around the warm glowing flames to fend off the chilled night air of the Pacific Ocean. While evenings in Huntington Beach seldom reach below 55 degrees and the average temperature is around 62 degrees, the ocean sometimes creates a misty atmosphere that, along with the soft winds, creates a chill. FREE CONCERTS ON THE BEACH (August) Live, free concerts on the beach throughout August. Pier Plaza Pacific Coast Highway & Main St. Concerts include outdoor cement seating and grass lawn with full exposure to the sun and pier. Bring blankets and chairs if you like. All Concerts Are FREE! FARMER'S MARKET (weekly) Farmer's Market includes flowers, fruit, breads, nuts and specialty foods are sold fresh to the consumer. Farmer's Market is held Friday afternoons from noon until dusk, admission is free. ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR (weekly) Held in conjunction with the Farmer's Market is an arts and crafts fair which features over 50 vendors selling gift items often not found elsewhere. From original artwork and photos, stained glass and wind chimes to rugs and clothes, you never know what you'll find at this event, though you can be sure you'll see lots of colorful California gifts. SAND VOLLEYBALL (daily) Huntington Beach is a sand volleyball paradise.
