Vacation Rental Description
Spend your Pacific Northwest vacation in Packwood, WA situated between Mt. Rainier, Mt. Saint Helens, and surrounded by Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Leave the fast pace and hassles behind, and embark on an adventure of natural scenic delights and wildlife so abundant, they can be seen roaming in the very center of town. Packwood is considered the dream of recreational enthusiasts, and White Pass ski area (18 miles beyond Packwood) has 1,510 vertical feet, ski lifts, great family skiing/snowboard programs, terrain for all ages, and all in stunningly beautiful surroundings. Our lodging will serve as your home base for all these activities and more. Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Rainier offer travelers and visitors alike adventure and thrills for a life time.
Getting there is half the fun! Start your relaxing vacation as soon as you leave the I-5 corridor. Head east on beautiful Hwy 12, Washington's White Pass Scenic Byway, "Playground of Volcano Country". Discover the mysterious and misplaced Tibetan Yaks (in Ethel), visit the DeGoede Bulb Farm and show gardens whose fields are a profusion of color, and enjoy a living reminder of the Wild-West by stopping in Glenoma (by the Fire Department) to see the American Buffalo up close and personal.
Even the most amateur photographer can capture Mount Adams (at mile marker 114) and Lakes Mayfield and Riffe at spectacular viewpoints. Hwy 12 is seldom traveled without seeing an array of wild life: elk, deer, coyotes, raccoon, bald eagles, or porcupine (one of our trips included a doe with twin fawns still sporting their spots). For those with more domesticated taste, the countryside is also filled with cattle, horses, sheep, and llamas.
Beautiful White Pass Senic Byway, Highway 12, is a veritable smorgasbord of brown recreation signs where you can satisfy your activities appetite every season of the year with fishing, boating, wind surfing, swimming, skiing (cross country and downhill), snowboarding, snowmobiling, hiking, horseback riding, and much, much more.
Our lodging is ideal for hunters that want the enjoyment of the outdoors without the discomforts of "roughing it", and a pleasant place for their wives who might prefer more casual activities including antique stores and a trip to the Butter Butte Coffee Company where they roast their own beans.
For the more spiritually minded, this is a great place to retreat for a time of solitude and reflection.
The Mt. Rainier and Tatoosh wilderness areas are accessed directly from the city of Packwood and you can explore numerous hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty.
Take an easy day trip to Windy Ridge, touted as the best view of the crater in Mount Saint Helens, or a shorter drive to the Ohanapecosh visitor center and a .4 mile hot springs hike or the longer Silver Fall hike of 1.2 miles (one way).
