Experience the beautiful sunrises over the Bay. Relax on the waterfront deck or the large flagstone patio and watch the sailboats and ships pass many miles offshore. Explore the coastline on two new double sea kayaks included with the house rental. The Chesapeake Bay is well-known as a bird lovers paradise. From the beach house you will see local osprey, great blue heron, bald eagles and pelican diving and catching fish. You may see a thousand Canadian geese arriving together to spend the night near shore. Cardinals, blue birds and other song birds also abound among the magnolias, azaleas, crepe myrtles, dogwoods, and towering pine trees.
Reedville is a small town of beautifully restored turn-of-the-century Victorian homes and great seafood restaurants. Local activity options abound. Charter a fishing or tour boat from a local marina. Take the daily ferry to Tangier or Smith Island, two picture perfect villages on islands in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Or bring your own boat and use the public boat ramp right down the road.
Explore the local farmers' markets or the Reedville Fisherman's Museum. Shop for art or antiques in nearby villages. Birdwatch at two Northern Neck nature preserves, golf at any of six local courses, or tour several nearby wineries. Explore the region's many historic attractions including the childhood homes of George Washington and Robert E. Lee.
The 4000 square foot house was renovated from top to bottom in 2005. It features an open floor plan and endless Bay views from every room. The huge great room features an antique wood-burning fireplace, 42" Plasma HDTV, large sectional sofa, and comfortable leather chairs. It is open to a kitchen with new stainless steel appliances and four-person breakfast bar, and to a large dining room with table for eight. The huge front porch, giant all season sun/game room, or fully-screened rear porch are all perfect spots for breakfast with the family or to read a good book.
A large private studio apartment above the detached garage is included in the rental. It features a queen bed, double futon, full bath, air conditioning and heat, SATTV/VCR/DVD, full kitchen and elevated deck with dinette and great Bay views. The apartment accommodates 2-4 and is perfect for extra relatives or friends.
In the main house, the upstairs king bedroom features a large in-suite full bathroom with double sinks. The upstairs queen bedroom includes an attached annex room with a full-size baby crib and shares a full hall bath with the "kids bedroom" with two double beds. The queen bedroom on the first floor has a full bath directly across the hall. The house also features a 12 x 10 private double outdoor shower with hot water.
