(I stayed at this property Dec. 31, 2010 - Jan 2, 2011, over New Year's, with five friends.) As soon as we pulled up to this adorable yellow cottage we knew we were in for a treat. The property is right on the lake, with a huge backyard and fire pit down by the water, as well as a dock for boaters. The kitchen was spacious enough for the six of us to sit down to meals comfortably, and a bathroom upstairs AND downstairs was extremely convenient. As we were three couples, the three bedrooms with double beds (and one of them a King) was perfect for us- we all had plenty of privacy, but spent the majority of our time in the large living room playing cards and some of the games provided at the house or watching movies from the house's DVD collection. Additionally, the very reasonable $25 pet fee allowed us to bring our dog along, who had a blast playing in the large backyard and chasing the football around with the boys. The back deck was large as well and perfect for grilling- the table out there would be perfect for playing cards at night in the warmer months, and as the weather was unseasonably warm we spent hours down at the fire pit making s'mores and people/boat watching the lake traffic go by. When we had an emergency (dead car battery on a Sunday!)- the owners were more than accommodating, letting us stay an unscheduled third night so that we had someplace to sleep until the garages opened on Monday morning- and for a fraction of their regular rate. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing, group- or family- accommodating house (loved the tropical-themed decorations!), as the six of us never wanted for space, but were each able to have our own private bedrooms as well. The owners were incredibly nice people I would love to do business with again. Thanks for a wonderful New Years' weekend!

I was lucky enough to enjoy a fantastic weekend this winter at the Sunshine House. The location of the house, an easy 2-hour drive from downtown DC, couldn’t have been better. Situated right on the lake with a fantastic dock and fishing spot the views from inside and outside couldn’t have been better. Like the outside, the inside of the house was clean, comfortable and very well maintained. Lastly, dealing with the owners was a breeze. Not only was the original vacation scheduling process simple, the owners graciously accommodated an unexpected change in schedule without a problem. If a long weekend at the Sunshine house was this great during the dead of winter, a summer vacation has to be an absolutely fantastic time.

We stayed at the Sunshine House for a few days over spring break 2011. What a WONDERFUL vacation! The kids loved jumping off the dock into the water. We all enjoyed the kayaks and took them out each day for hours. The house is small and comfortable with amazingly comfortable beds!! The kitchen is stocked with anything you could possible need, it was great!! We ate outside on the beautiful deck overlooking the lake for every meal. The yard is gorgeous and we played wiffle ball and football, and threw balls to our dog all day long. I loved the yard b/c it has an unobstructed view of the lake and the entire lakefront in back of the house (so I could always see the kids). We had fires at the fire pit every night and the house came with a huge pile of wood for the firepit! The grocery store is 5 minutes away. We caught TONS if fish off the dock and in the lake in front of the house. Shelia and Herb are so easy to work with and are very gracious owners. We will def be back for another vacation:) Great little home in a pristine location on Lake Anna!

I stayed four nights prior to the season start. It was the first time I stayed on the private side...loved it! The property is well kept, house well stocked and the views from the 1st floor and master bed room can't be beat. The house is well kept and clean.

Our two families with 2 four year olds and 2 two year olds and an energetic dog really enjoyed our Memorial Day weekend at the Sunshine House. The dock and the small zero grade entry area were perfect for the kids, plus the HUGE backyard was excellent when they finally got out of the warm water! The house was clean, and had everything we needed- plus our dog has been sleeping since she got home!

My husband and I stayed at the Sunshine House with our best friends who live in NC. We are in Baltimore and were so pleased to find this gem halfway in between our 2 homes. The water was warm and inviting. We spent sun - up to sun - down jumping and swimming with the dogs, sunning on the dock, fishing, or playing cards on the back deck. The house was clean and well - stocked and very comfortable for collapsing in each night with a surprisingly awesome TV and cable set up. Beds were comfy and the check in/check out procedure is easy and accommodating. We only had to make 1 trip up to the Food Lion and stopped at the corner market a couple times. We used the grill nightly and never had to worry about wasting precious vacation time on dishes as there were PLENTY for us to use and we could run a very effective dishwasher each night. We were sad to leave and have already discussed returning in the fall. Thanks for the awesome weekend!

The Sunshine House was so much more than we expected! We are a family of 4, with 2 kids who have a huge age gap one is 13 and one is 4. So you might say we have trouble finding a place that is perfect for everyone. We all LOVED the Sunshine House and will definitely stay again. There were beautiful sunrises and sunsets right outside on our bedroom balcony, bird watching with bald eagles, herons, bluebirds, turkey vultures, and even saw 2 hummingbirds right outside the window! The kids loved jumping off the pier into the super warm water, the fire pit, bean bag toss, jenga blocks and x-box were a few of the added bonuses that were a huge hit for the kids. The decor makes completely impossible for even a teenage boy to be in a grumpy mood. My daughter had a ball searching the house for as many "hidden lizards" and parrots and fish she could find. It was wonderfully whimsical and not to corny at all. It was a perfect and had everything a family could need. We actually brought too much because the house was so well stocked! Even floats for the water and kayaks!! The grill was awesome and with the back deck right near it everyone could hang out while Daddy cooked. My husband n son, loved catching tons of catfish and our 2 dogs had the best vacation of their lives! I could go on and on but it's a have to see for yourself. There are no worries with this home, everything was perfect! And it's alot more spacious than it looks in these pics too! We were pleasantly surprised and have tons of happy memories to take home with us. We are sad to leave but will definitely make the Sunshine House an annual trip for our family now. Thank you!

Forgot to mention that there are awesome things to do nearby like the Lake Anna State Park that is very inexpensive and even has a beach and we did gold panning there, also there is Kings Dominion only about 30 minutes away and the owner was very kind to give us the name and number of her neighbor who rents his pontoon boat for much cheaper than the marinas and for longer too!

A few friends and I rented the house for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. The house was absolutely perfect! It had everything we needed and more! The house is located on a fairly secluded part of the lake which was great! We had tons of privacy. We spent the weekend swimming, kayaking, grilling, and hanging around the fire pit. The house came fully equipped with everything we needed for cooking, grilling, and cleaning up. In addition, the owners were very helpful and answered any questions we had! We will definitely be making this house a yearly tradition!

Our family of 6 (3 active boys and 1 old man dog) had a fabulous time at the Sunshine house last weekend. It was our first time to Lake Anna, but definitely won't be our last. The property location is superb with outstanding views. But the amenities made the vacation 5 star. We used the owners 2 kayaks every day to explore the lake; caught catfish, sunfish and a small mouth bass right off the dock; rafted and swam right in front of the house (water was unbelievably warm); and built campfires every night. In addition, the area was private and secluded and just 5 miles from the grocery. The owners were so helpful answering all of our questions in advance. It was the perfect long weekend getaway, and I highly recommend it to young, active families trying to get away from it all. We'll definitely be coming back!
