Vacation Rental Description
Afton Cottage was built in 1996. The design was inspired by a Japanese farm house. 
 
The kitchen is fully equipped and offers everything but the food. You will find Calphalon cookware and Sabatier knives. 
 
The cottage is located 20 miles west of Charlottesville, home of the University of Virginia and Monticello. It is 25 minutes from Wintergreen, which offers golf, and skiing. 
 
Staunton, which is renowned for its Victorian architecture, is 25 minutes west. In Staunton you will find The Museum of American Frontier Culture, the birthplace of Woodrow Wilson, and the Blackfriar's Playhouse, in addition to excellent restaurants and numerous other cultural and sightseeing opportunities.  
 
The Shenandoah National Park and the Appalachian Trail are only 15 minutes away as are 2 breweries and 5, or more, wineries. Numerous restaurants, offering everything from fine dining to good old country fare, are within 15 minutes.  
 
UVA Visitors, we are just 20 miles from Scott Stadium, John Paul Jones Arena and THE ROTUNDA. Most of that is I64.  
 
Whether you are looking for a quiet retreat or a central location from which to explore Central Virginia, we think you will enjoy our little gem. After hiking the Appalachian Trail, antiquing, touring the local wineries, or merely sleeping late, curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book or relax on the deck and enjoy the mountains and the stars.

Beverly Thacker , Chesapeake, VA Our stay at Afton cottage was comfortable and warm on chilly nights. The gas firelogs kept the well kept cottage toasty warm. When we arrived there was soft music playing. Watching and listening to nature was one of our favorite things to do. The deck was one of my greatest enjoyments of the cottage. We also went to Crabtree Falls and to Monticello. 01/02/09 
 
Ernie Ryles , Winchester VA Before choosing Afton Cottage, I was looking for a quiet place for a retreat where I could spend my time in meditation, introspection and writing--without interruption. Afton Cottage met my objective. It was peaceful, quiet, nicely decorated, and very cozy. I certainly was not disturbed and was very pleased with my stay. Theresa Ferlisi , Jacksonville, FL I've stayed in many VRBO properties over the past few years throughout the United States, and this one is right up there with my favorites. My adult sons and I stayed for Christmas, and from the moment I walked in, I knew that it would be a pleasant experience. Not only were there holiday decorations displayed, but Dick had purchased a small Christmas tree and provided ornaments! The cottage was clean and very comfortable with just enough seclusion in the woods for privacy. I cooked Christmas dinner and had every piece of cookware and utensil that I needed. My dog was in doggie wonderland with so many wildlife smells to sniff and explore. You cannot go wrong with this wonderful retreat and I hope that I can return sometime soon!

Donna and Gary , Yorktown, VA This was our second time here. The first time was in the Spring and we loved it so much we came back now...in the Fall. It was a treat beyond belief to see all the trees in full bloom with various colors. I also had never had the experience of seeing deer that close up. When we peeked out the windows in the early morning we saw deer right next to the cabin! You will never find a nicer and more accomodating host than Dick Bell. We will be sure to come back again!

    		  Low Season Price: $175 per Day
      High Season Price: $225 per Day
         

    Sun-Thurs: $200 for a single night for 1-2 & $225 for 3-4 people, $175 per week night (minimum 2 nights) Fri. & Sat single night:$250 for 1-2,$275 for 3-4. $450 for a 2 night weekend .. $825 per week .. $1550 for 2 weeks.. $2900 for 4 weeks. In addition to the rent, a refundable security deposit equal to 1/2 of the rent, up to $250.00, is required to reserve the cottage. Refund within 7 days of departure. Rent is due in full 30 days prior to arrival. We accept Checks, Paypal, Visa, MasterCard, & Discover. CANCELLATIONS prior to 30 days before arrival date will receive a full refund. For cancellations within 30 days of arrival date, we reserve the right to keep the full rent. If we are able to re-rent for all or some of the rental dates, we will return a prorated share of the rent. WE RECCOMMEND TRIP INSURANCE WHICH IS AVAILABLE ONLINE AT NOMINAL RATES.
