3 Bedroom House in Springfield

The Grist Mill is a restored historic mill, circa 1850, located on the 72 acre General Lewis R. Morris in Springfield, Vermont. General Morris was an officer in the Continental kArmy during the Revolutionary war and became Vermont's first Congressman after the State was admitted to the Union in 1791. The main house and barn are on the National Register of Historic Places. The estate is now a fully operational Christmas tree plantation.

The farm is situated on the west bank of the Connecticut River, just 5 minutes off Interstate 91. Our private dock is within a few hundred feet of the Mill. We provide a canoe, a rowboat and several tubes for fishing and frolicking on the river.

For those of you who might prefer not to swim with the fishes, we have large in ground pool which we usually open in late June. Before then, in Vermont, only the beavers and otter do any swimming.

There is very little traffic on the river road and only slightly more on nearby Route 5, so cycling, walking and jogging are safe for young and old. We have an assortment of elderly bicycles you can use if you choose not to bring your own. Excellent hiking is available at Ascutney State Park just few miles away.

The Mill has three bedrooms, three baths and about 1800 feet of floor space.

The first floor features a living room with exposed beams, wood floors, a fireplace, a stereo system, a DVD player, a VCR and satellite TV. In addition, this floor has a full bath.
The kitchen provides ample workspace and all the utensils needed for family meal pre-paration. In addition to a full size range the kitchen is equipped with a toaster oven, microwave, a washer-dryer and several other small appliances. The dining table comfortably seats ten people. Double French doors lead to a small deck and a private furnished patio with an outdoor grill..

A winding staircase leads to the second floor. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and a full bath. A second double bedroom and another full bath are also located on this floor. Both bedrooms have views of the farm and river.

The third floor includes a walk through area with a double sleep sofa and a full bedroom with twin beds.

Nearby ski areas include Okemo, Ascutney, Magic, Stratton, Bromley, Sunapee, Suicide Six, and Killington which are all within an hour's drive.
