San Antonio boasts two fine theme parks: Sea World San Antonio, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. They are situated on the edge of town, an easy drive from our place. Nearby San Pedro Springs Park is one of the oldest dedicated parks in the USA. The swimming pool there, which is free and open to the public from the end of May to the middle of August, is fed by the natural spring flowing in the park. There are playgrounds for children there. We are located just 3 miles or so from the San Antonio Zoo, Japanese Sunken Gardens, and San Antonio Botanical Gardens. One of San Antonio's famous attractions is the Alamo, the site of a siege by Mexican General Santa Anna that resulted in the death of Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and Colonel William Travis. The Alamo is one of 5 old missions located here. The other 4 are located in a National Park south of downtown, where there are hiking and biking trails.
