The guest quarters include a beautiful gas fired stove with aromatherapy compartment for cold weather enjoyment, vaulted ceiling, hand painted faux-finish walls, saltillo tiled floor, an Old Mexico queen size bed with handmade carvings and European pillow top mattress, satellite TV, high speed DSL internet connection, dining area (not pictured), library, and a loveseat for lounging. The guest bathroom includes a vaulted ceiling and an old fashioned claw foot tub with shower next to a 5' window for mountain views while soaking. The guestroom is air conditioned, but our guests find that the ceiling fan cools the room quite nicely even on the extremely warm days of summer. And on the high desert, nights are much cooler than the days. The sitting room can also serve as a second bedroom. The daybed has a luxurious oversized twin mattress. The sitting room also includes a large mini-fridge, coffee and tea setup, microwave oven, and dining table. Organic fruit, juice and healthy snacks or pastries are provided for your stay. The suite was designed to give our guests a 360 degree view of the beautiful Jemez area. Guests also have access to our laundry room and the large downstairs deck for romantic, serene, leisurely dining on the river.
Area sites of interest include Bandelier National Monument, Chaco Canyon, Jemez State Monument, Santa Fe National Forest, Native American pueblos, (15 minutes away from us is Jemez Pueblo) , Valle Caldera National Preserve, Bandelier National Monument, Jemez Mountain Trail, Jemez Springs Bath House/Spa, Albuquerque Balloon Festival in October, Soda Dam, Gilman Tunnels, Battleship Rock, Fenton Lake State Park, Los Alamos Bradbury Science Museum, Sanctuario de Chimayo, Ponderosa Vineyards and Winery, and the Bodhi Manda Zen Center. All over NM, you will find very old and beautiful churches such as the one down the road from us in San Ysidro. Art Jemez has exhibits and events all year long, including art sales on the third weekend of each month. Please check their calendar for upcoming events.
Other activities you may enjoy while on retreat are bicycling, mountain biking and hiking, cross country skiing, golfing, birdwatching and trout fishing a few feet from your room (the Jemez River runs through our property). You also have several local restaurants, cafes, fine gift shops and art galleries/studios to choose from including our own gallery on-premise.
As your hosts, we are always happy to help our guests plan their NM agenda before they arrive or during their stay. Maps of NM based on area and activites are available in the guest quarters. And of course, I am available for any questions or assistance you may need for a truly grand New Mexico adventure, tranquil solitude or both. The retreat quarters are smoke free, but an ashtray will be provided for smoking out on the balcony or deck if you wish.
