Beach, Biking, Boating, Fishing, Hiking, Restaurant, Shopping
Although the beach is just across the Highway, the easiest beach access is across the highway and about 1 block north. On the way, you can see the remains of ancient Indian shell middens (mounds). The beach below the cabin has magnificent tidal pools and the clamming can be outstanding on low tides, providing the beds are not "sanded-in" and you know the right technique. Whale watching generally occurs between late September and early June, but many of our guests report seeing whales at all times of the year, and often every day of their stay. Seals can almost always be spotted in the surf or sunning themselves during low tide on the small muffin-shaped rock located almost straight out from the cabin. Crabbing can be experienced in the Alsea Bay, just 5 miles south at Waldport. Fishing is available by deep sea charter boats out of Newport, just 12 miles north.
