Vacation Rental Description
Surrounded by the gentle grace of the Smoky Mountains, this stunning lakefront home is the real "On Golden Pond." The lakefront mountain retreat is nestled on a private, one acre wooded lot in Sherwood Forest, a 1000 acre Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary with only 200 houses. Relax, watch and enjoy the natural surroundings of the lake and mountains and look for the white squirrels local to the area. Golf awaits on the 18-hole, par three course with pro shop (open year round). You may also swim in the heated junior Olympic-size pool, play tennis, hike on any of the 21 miles of well-marked hiking trails located within the neighborhood, and enjoy the five lakes for fishing or canoeing (canoe, paddles, and life vests are provided for use). Lakes are stocked with bass and bluegill with no fishing license required.
The cabin is beautifully furnished and features two master bedrooms each with 2 full private baths plus one additional bedroom. There is also central air conditioning/heat, a fully-equipped remodeled kitchen with new appliances, a wood burning fireplace in the living room, vaulted ceilings, and a new glassed-in sunroom with a gas log fireplace, a screened porch and outside decks all overlooking the lake. For your entertainment there are 3 televisions with satellite service including 5 cinemax channels, pay-for-view and a DVD player. And for your convenience, there is wireless internet and a full laundry with washer and dryer.
Our lakefront mountain retreat is located only five minutes from DuPont State Forest and Caesar's Head State Park with its incredible waterfalls, over 80 miles of hiking and mountain bike trails, and amazing overlooks. You are also within 10 miles from the Pisgah National Forest where you will find the Davidson River which boast more trophy trout per mile than any other stream in the country and unbelievable waterfalls. There is also tubing, rafting, horsebacking and Sliding Rock!
Brevard truly has something for everyone besides the 250 named waterfalls and hundreds of acres of the six state and national forests that surround it: There is also a thriving music and arts community, fantastic shopping, and outstanding dining in this charming Appalachian town. You may also want to visit The Flat Rock Playhouse, Biltmore Estate, and Carl Sandburg home that are but a few of the nearby cultural attractions. Visit and you'll understand why Rand McNally, The Wall Street Journal and National Geographic Traveler name this area one of America's top ten places to live and play.
