Vacation Rental Description
Stoneybrook is an extraordinary property that has numerous streams with massive stands of laurel and lush foliage bordered and protected by the US Forest Service. Enjoy walking the nature trails with unusual native wild flowers and an awesome stand of trees of many varieties (some of which are marked and identified... one hickory tree is estimated to be 150 years old).

The very spacious 24 by 28 feet outdoor pavilion with a stone fireplace is a favorite gathering place for each guest. Imagine a romantic evening listening to the crackling fire with your love, regardless of the weather or curl up with a good book while listening to the beautiful song birds and the babbling brooks.

We provide many magazines for your reading enjoyment. You will find many books with points of interest of this area and games and such for children. Provided are two mountain bikes for your pleasure.

Each of the three bedrooms and 2 baths have been totally remodeled...hardwood floors, cathedral ceilings, skylight windows, tongue and groove pine paneling are some of the unique features. Snuggling in comfortable beds as the Katydids sing you to sleep is a dream come true! Beds are 1 king size , 1 queen size and 1 double bed with luxury bedding for your comfort.

The cottage, according to many guests, has more to offer than just being a great vacation spot. It is nestled on 3.2 acres bordering Mount Pisgah National Forest and it is located only ten minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

We really enjoyed our stay at Stoneybrook. The house is immaculate and everything was in great shape. All of the rooms were very comfortable. We enjoyed the outdoor pavillion and fireplace. The memories of our talks and laughter will be with us forever. Thank you for your quick responses to our inquiries and for making the rental process so easy. We've booked several VRBO homes in the past and must say this is one of the best. Thank you so much and hope to return in the future.

We stayed in Four Seasons for the first time this fall 2010. The home is spacious enough for 5 of us and perfectly clean. Its a wonderful place to get away from the cell phones but still have all the comforts of home. We enjoyed the creeks, mountains and the outdoor pavillion too. We will be back. Thank you to our hosts!

A couple of us stayed in the rental for 4 nights through Christmas. What a wonderful experience!Everything was exactly as described and a person couldn't ask for more. The home was decked out in Christmas themes which included a Christmas tree, and it was such a lovely touch and really brought the holiday home. The home is well taken care of and very clean and comfortable. We got lots of snow on Christmas day and even though we didn't get to use them because the snow was not packed enough, they have sleds to be used! This home really is such a great place to stay if you want to get away, and is big enough to accomodate several people. We will definitely be looking to stay again. Thanks Elmer and Ruby for opening up this home to us, and giving us a great vacation experience.

Just returned from a 4 day stay at Stoneybrook and am already homesick to go back. This place is wonderful and one could not ask for anything more. Just like the ad; clean, spacious, well equipped and just like being at home. The outside fireplace was wonderful as well as the “inside one”. Very nice and cozy. Loved the "hike" on the snow covered road up towards the Parkway. Well worth the 25 minute drive from Asheville; why drive for days when you have Stoneybrook in your own backyard. I LOVED IT!!

This was by far one of the best rental properties we've ever stayed in and each detail was perfect. From the large well- equiped kitchen to the comfortable bedrooms, comfy living areas, outdoor pavillion, and the large back yard, every single piece of this property was well worth every penny and minute spent there. Try it, you will be so glad you did. Thanks Elmer and Ruby for a great "home away from home" !!!

Our first trip to western North Carolina. What a transition, to come from a climate where the native foliage is mostly barren and dry to a climate where everything is green and lush everywhere. And Stoneybrook is a storybook location to enjoy the amenities the Asheville area has to offer. We stayed here with our nephew and his family while attending a family wedding at Claxton Farm (also a beautiful location). The pleasant surprise at Stoneybrook was how completely and thoughtfully prepared the cottage. We found everything possibly needed for our stay, including a discount card to a local supermarket!!! The owners, Elmer and Ruby Watts, are truely delightful folks who are anxious to make your stay a completely enjoyable event. They paid us a visit on our last night here and we enjoyed their company at our post-wedding family BBQ. I truely look forward to coming here again! Now if I can only find an excuse!!!

This charming, impeccably clean, spacious and well appointed cottage exceeded our expectations. The grounds are also lovely with many flower beds; we played croquet and badmitten, and enjoyed walking out the back door and into the forest. nice to leave the car at home and walk to several different trails. The owners are delightful and seemed to anticipate our needs. see if they'll share their home grown tomatoes with you!

I had made a reservation for another home, but there was a mix up and I ended up losing it. I called a bunch of places the night I arrived in Asheville and they were all booked! Luckily, I called the owner of the Four Seasons Home and it was available so I booked it right there, the owner was very helpful and understanding even though it was late at night. My friends and I enjoyed everything this home has to offer. It's very peaceful, beautiful, and was the perfect place for my friends and I to relax in the mountains away from what we're used to...the city. :)

This home is the PERFECT place to vacation with young children (or without them!). We have 4 kids between the ages of 5-11 and they did not want to leave the house! We played baseball, badminton, and volleyball in the huge backyard. But most of all my kids loved the running stream in the back yard. They spent hours climbing through the stream and swimming in the water. The home itself was spotlessly clean and beautifully maintained. We ate dinner out on the porch every night with a roaring fire going. Thank you so much Elmer and Ruby for an unforgettable vacation. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I just returned from a lovely five week vacation at Stoneybrook. This was our third year and the stay just gets better and better. We've rented numerous homes over the years and Stoneybrook is by far the cleanest and most well maintained (beautifully decorated too!) The pictures do not do the lawn and flowers justice. Every morning and throughout the day sitting on the covered patio was like looking at a painting. And if all that isn't enough, Elmer and Ruby truly treat you like family. Anything you might need is there before you ask. We are already looking forward to next summer. Thanks for a wonderful summer.

Our son from Lexington, KY, my 92-year-old mother, husband, and I from middle Georgia met at Stoneybrook for a long weekend, and it more than met our expectations. The cottage was immaculate and the locale is simply breathtaking. We particularly enjoyed the early morning time with the birds and the walks to the babbling brook. We took the advice of the owners and took highway 151 to the Mt. Pisgah Inn in where we enjoyed more beautiful mountain views and good food. Two other activities that we appreciated were the hot air balloon ride with R. O. Franks Hot Air Balloon Company and the zany bus ride in Asheville with LaZoom Comedy Bus Tours. Without a doubt I would recommend Stoneybrook to anyone looking for a restful, pleasing cottage in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

What a beautiful week in North Carolina! We didn't have a drop of rain and the temperature was in the mid-70's every day. The autumn colors of the never-ending hills and mountain peaks were fantastic. And if all this natural beauty wasn't enough, we had the pleasure of staying in what was the cleanest, nicest, and best designed vacation home we've ever stayed in. There were endless views of the surrounding natural scenery from the many windows and skylights plus a beautiful outdoor pavilion with a large fireplace and comfortable furniture. And all of this is provided by two of the nicest, most accommodating hosts you could ask for, Elmer and Ruby. This was a vacation I won't forget and we'll definitely be back to Stoneybroook again. Thanks again Elmer and Ruby!

My husband and I have been coming to Asheville in the late fall for a little getaway for several years. Sometimes we have been very disappointed in our lodging choice not turning out as described. This was not a problem with Stoneybrook! The pictures do not lie. And neither do the other reviews! We stayed only through Thursday morning and have decided it was just not long enough. We enjoyed the outdoor pavilion and fireplace and my husband really appreciated being able to hear his music while sitting fireside. I do believe we have found our new home away from home. The only thing missing was a house cat to curl up in my lap while watching TV or at my feet while I slept!

Making smores by the outside fire with hot cocoa will be a memory my children will have forever. The kitchen was full equipped with everything I needed to cook big breakfasts and dinners and our family was able to sit at the beautiful dining table and enjoy everything this cabin had to offer. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. Our next trip will be much longer and we are so happy we have found this gem! :) Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Thank you...

My family has stayed at Stoneybrook twice in the past year. Once in September and just recently in December. Elmer and Ruby have done an excellent job at decorating for every season and making it just perfect for family gatherings, quiet visits and perfect for some great rest & relaxation. The beds are as wonderful as described and you will feel pampered your entire stay! We especially enjoyed the Outdoor Fireplace with music and great outdoor, comfy furniture. We were only 20 minutes from the Biltmore so we were able to visit a couple times. This is a perfect place if you want a quiet get away and you will not find kinder and more caring people than Elmer and Ruby. A special thanks to them for making both our stays just perfect! We will definitely plan another visit.

Christmas in the Mountains

Guest choppee73 (Durham, NC )
Date of stay 12/23/12
Review Submitted 01/03/13

My family and I spent the Christmas holiday at the Stoneybook cabin, and let me say to anyone reading this review that the house is absolutely amazing. Though we did go to the Biltmore during Christmas Eve, we actually had no desire to leave the cabin much due to the games, books, movies, music, and coziness of the home. Every detail was attended to, especially with the Christmas decorations--holiday hand soap in the bathrooms, Christmas candy and hot chocolate in the kitchen, and red and green dish towels by the sink. The outdoor patio was welcoming with all the necessities (firewood and kindling, gas grill and utensils, tables and chairs with cushions, candles). Extremely comfortable beds and super clean bathrooms with bright sky lights and warm, fluffy towels were available in abundance for your needs. The grounds were beautiful with the trails to the brook and our kids were delighted by the hidden surprises in the surrounding woods. Roasting marshmallows and hot dogs in the outdoor fireplace was wonderful with the kids and my husband and I had too much fun enjoying that simple delight. Be aware that the photos do NOT do this home justice, nor can you underestimate the kindness of the owner. I could share more, but I do believe that part of the charm of this cabin is the fact that you are constantly surprised by all the new little details you discover the longer you stay--therefore I will not spoil your happy surprise. My only regret is that I'm deeply sorry that we only stayed a little while--I will be soon making plans to return in the near future. The owners are wonderful and kind--we came as strangers and we left as friends.

My sisters and I had a Spring Fling to Asheville to visit friends and the Biltmore Estate. Stoneybrook is better than any 5-star hotel and stocked with everything you need for a worry-free stay. Just bring your personal items and food and youre all set! The cottage is beautifully decorated; each bedroom has its own personality. There's plenty of living space and the kitchen is LARGE and bright! There is also a large yard with paths to bubbling streams which you can hear when you're outside. Plenty of room for kids to play outside! The attention to detail inside and out is phenomenal and you can tell the owners are proud to share this lovely home with visitors. The location is easy to get to and not far from local eateries and grocery stores. Asheville is just a short drive away as is the Biltmore Estate. I would not hesitate recommending Stoneybrooke to anyone. It is a true mountain gem!

Following a beautiful drive to the very foot of Mt Pisgah, we noted the blooms on the beautiful landscaping as we turned into the driveway. With the anticipation building we turned the key and opened the door, and we could not have been more pleased with every feature this house had to offer. It was so well decorated; the living room felt so homey, the bedroom decor...we were already so happy. And then we stepped out the back...and saw the large covered patio with the grills...and the fireplace. Now we were excited! The firewood was already stacked, all we had to do was strike a match. Now this, was living! Every evening of our stay included a grilled dinner, a roaring fire, and a good book. We could not have been happier with this house. It has set the standard by which we will judge all future vacation homes.

my wife & I recently returned from a week spent visiting Asheville. We were lucky enough to have picked Stoneybrook from the many offers that VRBO had listed. We could not have been more pleased when we stepped into the front door for the cottage had everything we had dreamed of. All the bedrooms were excellent even though we only used one. The beds were extremely comfortable and the baths were well furnished with wonderful towels and the thing we really appreciated were the sky lights in the bathrooms. Now for the really unexpected feature that we loved-the large back pavilion with large tables, lots of chairs, a grill which worked wonderfully but the best feature was the outdoor fireplace that we used every night while we either grilled or had Happy Hour. The view of the grounds from the kitchen as well as other rooms was delightful for all the flowers were in full bloom. We spend the days in Asheville and the surrounding areas. This was a vacation that we both will remember forever and our thanks go to our hosts-Elmer & Ruby

Lovely Home

Three of us went on a girlfriends week and stayed at Stoneybrook. The house is lovely, room for 3 girls to get ready every morning. Lots of big fluffy towels and a fully stocked kitchen (not that we cooked, but anything we needed was there). The large paviliion was a nice place to sit and relax after a day of walking the Biltmore or ridding a train in the Smoney Mountains. Our cell phones did not have reception here, but Elmer has free long distance on the home phone, so we could call and check in on the family. It was conveniently located for us. The grounds were blooming and secnod to none. It is a beautiful place to stay, both inside and out. I highly recommend staying here, it is a great experience.

Family Getaway

Absolutely fabulous. No amenity was left out. Home is very nice and so comfortable. The property is beautiful. Many birds, plants, trees and a trail to the babbling brook. Spent every evening under the covered porch cooking out and had a roaring fire. Everything was wonderful. It was so peaceful, it was hard to leave. Visit Biltmore Estate, Hendersonville, Weaverville, Asheville and Chimney Rock. All within reasonable driving distance. Much to do and see. Location is very good. Especially nice, no cell service. A true getaway. I would highly recommend and would definitely like to return.

The only thing that would have made our stay here better would have been more time. The setting is peaceful. The home is warm, inviting, comfortable, CLEAN. Every amenity you could ask for. The outdoor picnic/fireplace area is the ultimate, could have spent the entire time there. The hiking trails behind the house were great for added adventure. In the evenings being able to watch the lightning bugs brought back so many memories. We will be back to stay here!!

There is a reason this house has so many wonderful reviews. It is everything you look for in a vacation rental it's clean, quite and convenient. Then it has the things that you don't even consider. The yard was beautiful and even inspiring, a lot of the flowers hadn't even bloomed yet and it was still gorgeous. The pavilion was fantastic, we ate many meals and roasted marshmallows in the fireplace almost every night. Even the rainy days were fun, we were still able to be outside enjoying the sounds of the stream and the fire because of the pavilion. There are so many books and brochures about the area, it was very easy to plan our adventures for the day. There were games to play, walking sticks for hikes, and sticks for roasting marshmallows. There is nothing you would find yourself wanting at this house. Everything has been thought of. Thank you so much Elmer, we had a wonderful time.

This house is truly as wonderful as the previous reviews suggest! The outdoor pavilion is our favorite place to "hang out". It's so relaxing to sit by the fire and listen to the stream running nearby. Everything is provided to ensure a comfortable stay and we hope to return here for many years to come.

Amazing cottage & pavillion

The cottage was just as wonderful as it was on our 2009 visit. The pavillion was our most favorite spot. We lit the fire just about every night and sat around it with our parents, chit chatting and enjoying each other's company. There are so many things to do in the area, our favorite is Biltmore. Elmer & Ruby have provided everything you could want in a vacation cottage. Their hospitality is amazing and unequaled!! We also enjoyed visiting with Elmer when he stopped by. We will definitely return!!

The PERFECT place for a wedding and time with family

Guest Rachel C.

The cottage was wonderful. The owners were the nicest people, I am so happy I met them. They were very accommodating. When we originally scheduled the trip, it was just a vacation. We then decided to get married. The owners graciously allowed us to be married on the property, which is PERFECT for a wedding. The grounds of the cottage are immaculately kept, as is the cottage. There were perfect places for wedding photos of family as well as my groom and I. We had the ceremony under the pavilion in front of the hearth. The yard could easily fit a larger wedding. The owners were also very understanding, when my son, an Army Ranger, informed us he was able to obtain a pass to be at the wedding, which increased our party to 6 instead of 5. The cottage has everything you could want for a vacation. There are small details that make the cottage a little piece of heaven. The owners love the property and it shows in the small details, like placards that name the plants in the yard, extra blankets, firewood for the outdoor fireplace, and candy in the candy dish. The owners have thought of everything. We loved the feel of remoteness, even though everything you could want to see or visit was about a 40 minute drive. As examples, Biltmore was 25 minutes from the property; Dupont National Forest was 40 minutes, Chimney Rock was 40 minutes, Linville Caverns about 1 hour, the Blue Ridge Parkway was 4 minutes aways, and the Flat Rock Playhouse was about 40 minutes. If you have a chance, you must visit the Flat Rock Playhouse, fantastic performances. I cannot wait to visit again. I hope Maggie the dog will be around when we return as well. She quickly became part of our family.

Our home away from home

The house exceeded our expectations. It was very tastefully decorated and maintained. Elmer and Ruby had all the comforts of home you would need. We really enjoyed the outside fireplace area. It was central to everything we wanted to see in the Asheville area, including the Biltmore, Chimney Rock, Lake Lore and of course Asheville. Elmer made us feel like family. He was very helpful in recommending places to see and restaurants in the area. We ate one night at a place called Fatz (at Elmer's suggestion). The waitress couldn't have been any nicer and the food was great. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone staying at Stoneybrook.
