Sunset Island is a lovely community of seasonal and (a few) year-round residents who enjoy a particular kind of life: No cars, no trucks, no phones (unless you bring your own) a laid-back, easy, family-oriented lifestyle.
You can arrive by boat from Lake Ontario or a public launch ramp across the harbor at the Wilson-Tuscarora State Park, or by foot, a 10-minute walk through the park. Guests may park their car in the park and either walk in or boat in using the Doherty dinghy.
A stone beach on the island (or a sand beach at the state park), tennis courts, badminton nets and a horseshoe pit on the island, plus miles of marked nature trails and a Frisbee-golf course in the park offer plenty of family activities.Easy access to Lake Ontario and miles of back-stream waterways offer splendid opportunites for sailing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking

Historic Wilson, on the Niagara wine trail, has several fine restaurants, some with live music, a fishing pier, boardwalk, banks, shops and pool. Niagara Falls and the Seneca Casino are about a half-hour west; Lewiston and Artpark, Youngstown and Old Fort Niagara are even closer; the charming village of Olcott is 15 minutes east and Buffalo is 45 minutes south. Niagara-on-the-Lake (Ontario) is just across the river from Youngstown, and Toronto is a 90-minute drive around the lake (or a three-hour sail, depending on the winds).
