Main Description

For summer visitors, Metcalf Pond is a pleasant small lake. It is shallow for some distance from shore, making it safe for children swimming with adult supervision. For winter visitors, the cottage is just a short drive to world-class skiing at Smugglers Notch. In exchange for that short drive, you get rates a fraction of what you would pay for lodging at the slopes.

The cottage is large and fully furnished. It has a full kitchen including dishwasher. We provide sheets and towels, and stock the fridge with a limited amount of food for breakfasts. Therefore, the experience is similar to an unhosted bed & breakfast. A large downstairs bathroom includes a washer and dryer. The living room has a gas fireplace, which heats the building (along with one other heater) during cold winter days. An enclosed porch has a pleasant sitting area and wood-burning fireplace.

The master bedroom on the second floor contains a queen-size bed, and opens up to a balcony. A second upstairs bedroom has two twin-size beds and two trundle beds--so beds can be combined if there are fewer people. A downstairs room can be curtained off for a third bedroom, or opened up to use as an extension of the living room.

An outdoor two-person hot tub is a pleasant place to relax, particularly in winter. We provide a rowboat, a canoe, and a small sailboat for your use. We provide a telephone line, including a dial-up computer connection. We provide a computer, or use your own.

The area is rural, and attractions in the immediate area (aside from the swimming and skiing) include a winery, a riding stable, and a corn maze. For more cultural activities, the cottage is 30 miles from Burlington. Montreal is close enough for a day trip. Many of our guests use the cottage as home base for touring a wide range of attractions and activities in Vermont and the surrounding area.

Activities Close By

Beach, Biking, Boating, Fishing, Horse Riding, Restaurant, Skiing, Snowboarding
Many of the above activities that are not checked are available within a fairly short drive. For example, Burlington, a great college town (and Vermont's largest city) is about a 30 mile drive. For day trips, you can easily visit the Shelburne Museum, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, or most of the other Vermont attractions you may have heard about. Montreal is also close enough for a day trip. The Smugglers Notch area is also a great place for a scenic drive, particularly during the fall foliage season.

Facilities

Dishwasher, Cooking Utensils, Tumble Dryer, DVD Player, Heating, Jacuzzi, Kitchen, Microwave, Open Fire, Parking, Refrigerator, Stereo, TV, Washing Machine
Large, house-size cottage with many extras, located on a small lake in one of the most scenic parts of Vermont. The cottage is only 13 miles from world-class skiing at Smugglers Notch--in exchange for a short drive, you pay a small fraction of lodging costs at the slopes. An outdoor hot tub is a perfect spot to relax after a day of skiing or other activities.

The large yard includes playground equipment for children and a fire pit for bonfires. An enclosed porch includes a wood-burning fireplace, and the deck includes a charcoal grill and ample eating area. Another firepit and picnic table are on the lake frontage.
