For summer visitors, Metcalf Pond is a pleasant small lake. It is shallow for some distance from shore, making it safe for children swimming with adult supervision. For winter visitors, the cottage is just a short drive to world-class skiing at Smugglers Notch. In exchange for that short drive, you get rates a fraction of what you would pay for lodging at the slopes.
The cottage is large and fully furnished. It has a full kitchen including dishwasher. We provide sheets and towels, and stock the fridge with a limited amount of food for breakfasts. Therefore, the experience is similar to an unhosted bed & breakfast. A large downstairs bathroom includes a washer and dryer. The living room has a gas fireplace, which heats the building (along with one other heater) during cold winter days. An enclosed porch has a pleasant sitting area and wood-burning fireplace.
The master bedroom on the second floor contains a queen-size bed, and opens up to a balcony. A second upstairs bedroom has two twin-size beds and two trundle beds--so beds can be combined if there are fewer people. A downstairs room can be curtained off for a third bedroom, or opened up to use as an extension of the living room.
An outdoor two-person hot tub is a pleasant place to relax, particularly in winter. We provide a rowboat, a canoe, and a small sailboat for your use. We provide a telephone line, including a dial-up computer connection. We provide a computer, or use your own.
The area is rural, and attractions in the immediate area (aside from the swimming and skiing) include a winery, a riding stable, and a corn maze. For more cultural activities, the cottage is 30 miles from Burlington. Montreal is close enough for a day trip. Many of our guests use the cottage as home base for touring a wide range of attractions and activities in Vermont and the surrounding area.
