Main Description

Spectacle Island is a 5 acre island off the coast of Maine between Bar Harbor and Winter Harbor, in Frenchman’s Bay. Only accessible by boat, Spectacle is the perfect spot to get away.

While staying on Spectacle there are many ways to fill a day. From an exploration around the island to whale watching just offshore, Spectacle also provides kayaks, sailing, swimming and relaxing. Just a short boat ride into Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island allows guests to experience the beauty of the Maine coast. Bar Harbor is a quaint town which provides lots of shopping, dining and exploring. Also located on Mount Desert is Acadia National Park. Whether you are looking to hike, bike, or take a drive along the rocky shores Acadia has something for everyone! Neighboring harbors such as Northeast, Southwest, Seal, Bass and Winter Harbor provide some of the most unique Maine experiences. A national park bus service called the “explorer” leaves from downtown Bar Harbor at all hours of the day and can take you to every spot on Mount Desert. You may also choose to rent or bring your own car to be left in Bar Harbor or Winter Harbor while you are staying on Spectacle Island.

At the end of the day enjoy an amazing sunset overlooking the mountains of Acadia followed by a Maine lobster bake right there on the shores of your very own private island!

Accommodations

The home is a hand carved post and beam finished in 2006. Spectacle is free of the
mainland and completely self sufficient. The island produces its own fresh water, power
and heat by means of a generator, solar panels, batteries, inverters, desalinization equipment and propane. The house (top right) has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths and is accompanied by a beachfront bunkhouse (middle right) just across the field. The three bedrooms contain a king, queen and two twin beds sleeping a total of 6 guests, the bunkhouse equipped with four bunkbeds and loft with a double bed can sleep 6. Along with the three bedrooms and two baths the main house has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, living room with fireplace (below) and entertainment center with a 92” movie screen to watch your favorite DVD movie or Satellite television on those foggy days!

Hosts
While staying on the island Jaime and AJ are there to make sure you enjoy your stay,
provide transportation as well as keep the island systems up and running. To ensure your
privacy your hosts are living in a separate house adjacent to the main house. The original house was built in the early 1900s, it has recently been updated with plumbing but still uses kerosene lamps to keep its rustic nature.

Pet Policy

Spectacle Island is pet friendly and we understand how important it is to bring your pet on vacation with you. However we stress the importance of well behaved and friendly animals. Spectacle is the perfect place for your dog to come and enjoy the outdoors, one of the plus’s of living on an island is that your pet has the freedom to roam without a leash. Your hosts AJ & Jaime have two dogs: Cody, a 3yr old Cocker Spaniel and Duke, a 10yr old Golden Retriever. Both dogs are extremely friendly and always enjoy having friends to run, swim and play with. We ask that your pets be house trained and friendly towards other dogs and people.

Prior to your arrival a pet amendment must be signed and returned along with current records of your pets vaccinations. By law no aggressive breeds are allowed on premises, this includes but not limited to the following: Rotweiller, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd, Standard Poodle, Pit-Bull etc. Spectacle Island has the right to turn away any breed that they feel is a threat to guests and hosts.
