Vacation Rental Description
Why stay at a crowded resort when, for the same price, you can have true wilderness seclusion in this privately owned, beautifully furnished Lake Vermilion lake cabin?

Looking out our windows, you see no other cabins unless you use binoculars. We are at the "more remote" east end of Lake Vermilion, on the mainland. (Many cabins on Vermilion are on islands, but our cabin has the benefit of allowing you to drive right up to the door.) For those familiar with Lake Vermilion, our cabin is just off of the far eastern tip of Pine Island. The beauty of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is only a half mile away through the woods, one and a half miles away by boat or canoe. A canoe is provided, and a boat and motor can be provided for an additional cost of $300 per week.

This cabin has been lovingly cared for by the same family for 30 years, and has very seldom been rented out during that time. Understandably, we are interested in renting only to very respectful guests who will treat the property with the same loving care that we do. For this reason we do ask for multiple references and check them carefully. Preference is given to guests who book for two weeks or longer.

The National Geographic Society has described Lake Vermilion as one of the top ten most beautiful lakes in the United States. Today it's known not only for its natural, rustic beauty, but also for championship fishing that includes walleye pike, northern pike, muskellunge, small-mouth bass, crappies, and panfish. Lake Vermilion has 1,200 miles of shoreline (more than any other lake in Minnesota), has no motor restrictions, spans 40 miles, and includes 365 islands --and one of those islands is nine miles long!

Our cabin features a fully equipped kitchen with all appliances, microwave, coffeepot, crock pot, and toaster, but why stay inside cooking on a beautiful day? If you are coming through Minneapolis or St. Paul, have all your meals prepared for you in advance by our friends at MIX IT UP MEALS in White Bear Lake, MN (link below). Just order the meals you like from the MIX IT UP website, and the friendly staff there will have them all ready for you to pick up frozen as you pass by I-35E and Highway 96 in White Bear Township. You'll easily have a week's worth of meals ready for the stove, the oven, or our excellent quality outdoor gas grill.

Boat launching, bait, pontoon boat rental, boat gas, bar, and rustic sauna (bring your own towels; reserve in advance) are available at an established resort 1/3 mile away from this property. Restaurants, art galleries, shopping, a full service spa, and wilderness outfitters are just 1/2 hour away in Ely. Loved staying at the cabin for the second year in a row; we caught a massive number of fish inciuding a 5 and 1/4 pound small mouth bass and a 51" muskie. I'll be back in June of 2011!"

"Wow wow wow Awesome views and sights and sounds. This place and area are so beautiful that at times it didn't seem real. Kids want to know if we're coming back -- why certainly! What an artist God is! Thanks Jeannie and family!"

"We had a fun and relaxing week. We enjoyed every aspect of the cabin, especially the awesome view from the second floor windows. There were lots of fish caught as we explored Lake Vermilion in our bass boat. Vermilion is a beautiful lake and the scenery surrounding the lake and cabin is breathtaking. We always had plenty to do to enjoy ourselves...canoe rides, playing checkers, sitting by the fire, watching the sunset...it was all great! Thanks! We'll be back!"

"The last night we put smooth jazz to pay on the CD player, and each of us sat at a separate window, soaking in that view in absolute silence. We must have sat there, completely immersed in it all, for 45 minutes."

We were amazed at how you thought of everything we would need, from the complete kitchen with waffle iron and crockpot, to all the linens, towels, board games, gas grill, and other things too numerous to mention. The cabin was beautifully maintained and clean; even the lawn was beautifully mowed and manicured. It's obvious you take great pride in this place and love it very much. What's still most impressive to us, though, is how private this cabin is. We would sit for hours and not see any people, any other buildings, or any boats at all in all that huge beautiful expanse of water. It's like the BWCA wilderness, but I get a soft bed and a hot shower in the morning! Thank you! We'll be back
