Inspired by thoughts of 'When in New York do as New Yorkers do," we at Country Inn the City set out to create the kind of accommodation that was more native than tourist; an antidote to the typical hotel route, if you will.
Although we are more bed and breakfast than hotel, this is not the kind of accommodation where you will find cutesy decor and interfering hosts. Your self-contained Upper West Side apartment is your own and you are free to come and go as you please. Our rates are well below those of comparative hotels.
Our target market is the discerning adult traveler (sorry no children, doubles or singles only) in search of a high quality yet less expensive alternative to hotels. NOTE: We are not a typical fly by night apartment set-up: rather we are a legitimate enteprise with a solid reputation to protect. We are located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a perfect place for one to experience New York City living in a desirable neighborhood, one not so far from the tourist attractions as to be considered inconvenient. (Featured on 'Jane's New York' on NBC - Hotel special on New York City, 2005.)
The critics are unanimous and they found us. We did not find them. No other big city small hotel alternative has received this much good press. In addition to what is below we have been featured in Guide de Charme, Virgin Travel guides, Lonely Planet, Quantas Magazine, Daily News, USA Today, The London Financial Times, National Geographic (soon to be), Out and About, Louis Vuitton, Swissair Magazine, and more.
"Imagine what it would be like to have a good friend in New York City who has a beautiful, classic, turn-of-the-century townhouse in a quiet residential neighborhood... You'd be living like a rich New Yorker, but not have to take care of the place or pay real estate taxes. Well, who needs friends when you have Country Inn the City, a four room bed and breakfast... that is one of New York's secret little gems." (New York's Best Wonderful Little Hotels: All editions)
"A charmer. You enter a small, limestone building on a residential side street, and walk up the stairs to one of four thoughtfully and attractively outfitted guest rooms... every neighborhood should have a Country Inn the City." (New York Times Guide to Hotels)
"This charming bed and breakfast is rich with original details, impeccable Americana-style decor, and more homey comforts than you'll find anywhere else for the price." (Frommers travel guides)
"This New York City brownstone (limestone) has been carefully restored, comfortable yet elegant down to the smallest detail." (Knopf City Guides)
