Vacation Rental Description
New (2004) shingle-style cottage whimsically reminiscent of those built on the coast of Maine at the turn of the last century. Located on Water Street in the village of Castine, it is a short walk to the yacht club, golf & tennis club, shops, restaurants, library, and museums. Take a stroll on the shore or just rusticate on the large covered porch and enjoy views of the harbor. The first floor is handicap accessible with open living and dining rooms, an exceptionally well-equipped kitchen, a large bedroom, a full bath with walk-in shower and laundry area. The second floor has a large bedroom, a full bath with claw-foot tub, and an open loft living area with a daybed and trundle. The stone chimney, spiral staircase, vaulted ceilings and abundant period windows lend an air of casual, light-filled living.

Band concerts on the Common, art exhibits and a weekly farmer's market are examples of the many events that take place during the summer. Bicycle or take a walking tour of this very historic village. Sailing lessons for children are available at the yacht club. Lessons for adults can also be arranged. Charter a boat & experience Penobscot Bay. While the summer months are the busiest, year-round residents prefer September & October. The weather is splendid, it is less crowded and all the seasonal shops and retaurants are still open. Apple picking, exploring the coast, and "leaf peeping" are a few favorite things to do. Maine winters are beautiful. When the coast and countryside are blanketed with fresh snow, it's time to pull out the cross country skis and snowshoes. Trails are nearby, and the carriage roads in Acadia are groomed and ready. During May & June, when Spring arrives in Maine, the lilacs and fields of lupine are in bloom.
