    Waialua is a historic community on the north shore of Oahu. Previously a center for sugar plantation and refinery. It is at the western end of the so called 'Miracle 11 Miles' of surfing, which every autumn and winter received a north west to south east swell, which is considered by many to be one of the best spots on earth to surf. Waialua is a sleepy community with an active soap factory, small coffee plantation and mill. The High School boasts of one of the best Robotics Teams in the USA. The small but quite functional public library is a bliss for children's books. The public swimming pool and tennis courts as well as baseball field and basketball courts are open for public access. There are at least 3 children's playing grounds with slides and other features within 1/2 mile of Bali-Ho. Because of the western location of Wailalua relative to the Miracle 11, it receives a smaller surf, but a consistent one, nearly year round. Bali-Ho is protected by 2 reefs and that means there is a sandy beach with little if no surf on shore. But if one paddles one to the outer reef, then excellent left tubes can be found. In between are coral caves, fish and of course resident turtles.
