Vacation Rental Description
Aloha and welcome to Ole Kamaole's ("Ole the Barefoot's")Beach House! In Hawaii the Trade Winds blow almost continuously from the northeast, bringing lots of rain to the windward sides of the islands. By contrast, the leeward sides have little rain year round.

On the sunny west side of Kauai and 24 meters from the sea, we are at the foot of Waimea Canyon. American author Mark Twain called this the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Travel along its edge to the top of the extinct volcano behind us to Kokee State Park (Google it!), which is one of the last remaining endemic Hawaiian rain forests. Here are 66 Km of hiking trails. Some lead down into the canyon, and some out onto knife-edge ridges 1200 meters above the Na Pali Coast below. See waterfalls and rainbows. There is one trail with a boardwalk which goes down into a high-altitiude swamp in a volcanic crater. Here one can observe plants and animals that exist nowhere else on Earth. In the center of the park a natural history museum staffed by friendly docents will aquaint you with this wonderful ecosystem. Ask about trail conditions at the museum.

Directly across the street from the house waves break on four-ton boulders. 30 meters East begins a dark sand beach, which continues 3 Km to a small boat harbor. 30 meters west is a small, almost private pocket beach. About 200 meters west begins perhaps the longest white sand beach in Hawaii, extending for 27 Km out past Barking Sands to Polihale Beach Park. This beach is little known, and one can often beachcomb for miles without seeing another person. 5 Km to the west is a lifeguard tower, fresh water shower, toilet, and for shade and comfort several concrete pavilions with picnic tables and built-in barbecue pits.
We are 5 Km from the small town of Waimea. Here, at the mouth of the Waimea River, Captain Cook first landed in Hawaii in 1778. At the mouth of the river are the ruins of an old Russian Fort. There are two grocery stores and several restaurants in town.

Prepare a feast in your complete kitchen, or just pop some popcorn in the microwave and mix a tropical drink in the blender. The automatic dishwasher will clean up. Full breakfast supplied...you just help yourself!
Large glass windows and doors, open beam ceilings, indirect lighting, ceiling fans and art hangings compliment the decor or your beach house. Raised above the bananas and papayas on 4 meter pilings, you can watch whales, dolphins, and ships at sea directly from your living room, bedroom, and large deck. Catch of glimpse of mysterious Niihau Island in the sunset, or watch the moon rise over Waimea Bay.

80 Feet from the Sea on Kauai's Sunny West Side

Aloha and welcome to Ole Kamaole's Beach House. Located on Kauai's sunny west side at the foot of Waimea Canyon, we are across the street and just down the beach from an exciting surf break. The beach is 100 feet (30 meters) to the east and west. There are no major hotels or tourists developments in our tiny village of Kekaha. This is real Hawaii! Yet Waimea town is only 3 miles (5 km)away. Waimea itself is a very small town, but there you will find grocers, restaurants, banks, and a hospital. It is on the banks of the Waimea River, where Captain Cook first landed in Hawaii in 1778. The ruins of an old Russian fort guard the mouth of the river. Up the inactive volcano behind us is Kokee State Park (Google it!), one of the last endemic Hawaiian rain forests, with over 40 miles of hiking trails. Some trails go down into Waimea Canyon, which American writer Mark Twain called the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Others go out onto knife-edge ridges 4000 feet above the wild and nearly inaccessible Na Pali Coast. We are also 15 minutes from the end of the road, where you will find majestic (and often empty) Polihale beach park.
Lots of glass, open beam cieling, indirect lighting, ceiling fans, art hangings, and wood floors compliment the decor of your two bedroom beach house. The large door of the second bedroom slides into the wall if you want to open that room up to the rest of the house. Raised above the bananas and papays on 12 foot pilings, catch a glimpse of mysterious Niihau Island from the whale watch deck, or watch the moon rise over Waimea Bay. Prepare a feast in the complete kitchen, or just pop some popcorn in the microwave or blend a tropical drink with ice from the icemaker. The automatic dishwasher will clean up. Full breakfast supplied. You'll sleep well on the King size bed. Put your family or friends up on the two beds in the second bedroom/den, or on the sleeper sofa in the living room. There's room for six, and we provide the sheets and towels. Nearby activities include fishing, hiking, biking, helicopter, boat, or ATV tours, snorkeling, sunbathing, sailing, or shopping. Or just like in the hammock and read!
