Puna offers us an incredible back-yard of steam vents, hot ponds in park setting, black sand beaches, coastal cruising in the rental car with tropical vegetation and ocean views that are a feast for the eyes as well as the spirit, lava flowing into the ocean with awesome sci-fi looking landscaping as a back-drop. True diversity for the Soul, It’s like visiting another planet, all this within 20-25 minutes travel time. 3 miles down the road we have Pahoa town, with ethnic restaurants and Natural Food store or regular supermarket. We are located 1.5 miles from the largest Sunday Farmers market on the island. Oodles of local color, produce, entertainment, and food. In another direction we have Volcano national park. Always something going on of an interesting nature including some extremely wonderful hiking trails. Going in the other direction we have Hilo town, Rainbow falls, boiling pots, and Kaumana Caves. Always someplace to go and the convenience of a local person to give you insight and direction in which to enjoy the sights and beauty of the Big Island… This home is set in a tropical garden. There is always something in bloom here. Take your time and see how many plants you can recognize. Yes that is lava and this garden is growing right out of it!! Try digging a hole in that. It's hard to imagine gardening in lava but actually lava is full of minerals and nutrients that make plants thrive.
