Savannah has a great history - founded in the early 1700's by the British to serve as a buffer between the wealthy rice planters of South Carolin and the Spanish in Florida. The first settlers were debtors from England. The city was laid out by General Oglethorpe and has a distinctive grid system with 26 Squares. The squares are beautiful and filled with azaleas, live oak trees and palm trees. There are 3 distinctive historic areas - The Colonial section (the original houses from Oglethorpe's time), The Ante-Bellum section (homes from before the War Between the States when Cotton was King), The Victorian section (homes built after the War when Savannah made a come back after the Yankees departed and before the boll weevil destroyed the Cotton economy).
Savannah has the largest historic district in the United States.

As they say in real estate - Location is Key - and it applies to travel too. Nestled between two of Savannah's grandest squares (Madison and Pulaski) is an 1852 townhouse built by Julia Tucker. We call the townhouse Julia's Hideaway and it is in, simply the best location, in the district. Across the street from old St. John's Church - you will hear the same bells that roused General Sherman from his sleep during The War Between the States. 2 short blocks is the Mercer House (from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil). Around the corner is Miss Wilkes Boarding House Restaurant on Jones Street - the Prettiest Street in the South!). One building away from famous Bull Street. You can walk to everything - historic homes, restaurants, the river, even a grocery store.
Your private apartment has a fully equipped kitchen (from dishwasher to coffee maker), a queen sized bed, cable tv, washer/dryer. Private courtyard with garden seating.
