Sanibel is situated in the Gulf of Mexico on the South West Coast of Florida. The Island is 20 miles by about 3 miles and is accessed via a causeway from the mainland just west of Fort Myers. Sanibel is far enough south to enjoy excellent weather all year round. It is renowned for it's beaches and specifically for shelling (It said to  
be the 'shell capital of the world') Equally most of the Island is dedicated to wildlife on the unspoilt nature reserves. The extensive cycle paths are a great and safe way to see the Island and cycles are available from the local hire shops.
