This has been our own year 'round home, rented only once before to wonderful tenants who came for the summer and loved it so much they stayed till the following spring!
This cedar-shingled house is 75 ft from the beach and has water views of Fisher’s Island Sound & Noank harbor. Currently furnished with antiques and the scholarly library of an art dealer and world-traveler; many of these items would remain for your enjoyment. Contemplative space for an artist or academic. Ideal for a single person or couple.
This is a very quiet and safe neighborhood on a small peninsula. Long walks on sidewalks, docks, and beaches are possible at any hour. (We have our own police department patroling around the clock). There are tennis courts, nature trails, and a golf putting-green.
Built in 1917, our home has its original interior beaded boarding. There is a wrap-around porch and roofed, second-floor balcony, that was used as a summer-study. Approximate interior space is 1300 sq ft.
Upstairs: 3 small rooms w/ closets (2 are currently furnished w/ beds)
Glassed-in sun-porch ; bathroom w/ large shower; hallway;
Exterior balcony with water views. (We had a summer writing desk here)
Downstairs: Living room; dining room; spacious kitchen; powder room; large, covered porch.
Basement: Location of washer, dryer; water heater, furnace, electrical panel
Parking: Gravel driveway w/ space for 2 small bcars
Garden/yard: Small lawn,evergreen shrubs,flowering trees,hydrangeas, roses, daylilies; gravel paths.
Phone. No TV---just the sounds of the shore. DSL available.
There is a good music collection (vinyl & CD(. Heat is forced hot air (oil furnace).
Please note--- ours is one of the few early, shingled homes remaining in Groton Long Point. To protect its unique character, it has had minimal remodeling, though it has had good maintenance (new roof, insulated windows). There is a dishwasher, large new refrigerator, and updated electrical panel w/ circuit breakers. Bathrooms and kitchen retain their vintage character. Washer & dryer are in basement, which has separate ground-level entrance. The house is raised on stone pillars; two exterior sets of steps lead to the porch and first floor. There is one interior staircase from living room to bedrooms and full bath on second floor. The house is not handicapped accessible(which is why we are renting it). Our home would not be practical for everyone, but it might be the right nest for you.
