Vacation Rental Description
Experience Lightner Creek- Durango’s best kept secret…
(the movie “City Slickers” was filmed at the end of this private road)
Our secluded mountain chalet’s entrance is over a private bridge, which crosses the beautiful Lightner Creek and winds through cottonwood trees to the house. The chalet itself abuts the mountainside and has its own private trail up to the famed “Mushroom Rocks” plateau (if you look closely and are lucky, you may even see over 1000 year old Anasazi Indian artwork along the ridge). Look out the expansive windows and high-beam aspen ceilings of the front and sides of the home and you will be breath taken by a few acres of flat, diverse magnificently landscaped terrain (I have the bad back to prove it!). Some of the features are a private, spring-fed pond stocked with monster rainbows, a couple private beaches and fireplace area on Lightner Creek, and meadows of aspen, cottonwood, pine, and fruit trees. It is worth mentioning this fenced-in acreage make great ball fields and playgrounds for kids and adults, alike (in the winter, you can sled down the base of your private mountain).
Oh yes, the property itself, I already mentioned the expansive windows and high beam aspen ceilings in this 4 BR/ 3.5 bath house, built in 1997. Over the past 2 years, we have also remodeled much of the home, including new hardwood floors, river rock fireplace hearth, and entire build-out of the 1st level of the home, which includes a large, carpeted kids’ playroom. All of the furniture in the home is brand new, which includes a beautiful office area with African mahogany wood desk and reclining lounge chair for reading. Yes, we are fully set-up with DSL, DirectTV, and all the other modern amenities to conduct business, if you have to!
Since you already decided on coming to Durango, I’m sure you already know the outdoor paradise it is: hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, skiing, horseback riding, etc., etc. It is also unbelievable the amount of great restaurants in this historic mining town, which boasts one of the last coal-powered trains in existence, the famed Durango-Silverton train.
Back to our specific location- we are surrounded on 3 sides of the property by Perin’s Peak state park, which means you walk right from the front door to some of the best hiking and biking in the area, including Dry Fork Loop, Colorado Trail, Twin Buttes, Barnroof Point, and Perin’s Peak. Pick up a guidebook yourself to see this ideal location.
I am quite sure when you decide on a specific vacation home and are really looking for the “Durango experience,” you will agree our private, secluded setting blows away the majority of the vacation rental properties that are in planned urban communities (you probably already live in one of these, like myself most of the year!). Even if you don’t stay with us the first time, go take a peak at our location (after all it is a 5 minute drive from downtown) & I bet you will be calling us on your next vacation to Durango.
