We loved Pacific Grove

We all had a fantastic time at this house, which is a very comfortable and charming family home. Everything was as described on the website and all very clean and well-maintained.

Upstairs there is a large den which the kids loved - this worked very well for us when we wanted to enjoy peace and quiet around the fire downstairs. The front porch was another favourite area - we spend many hours there in the morning with our coffee watching the world go by.

Location is a very big advantage to staying here - the beach, and lovely shops and restaurants of Pacific Grove are a 5 minute walk away. The walk into Monterey to visit the aquarium (do not miss) is around 1/2 hour (slow pace) and follows the coast. The street the house is on is very quiet. We saw deer running down the road a number of times in the morning.

The owner of this property is a pleasure to deal with - prompt replies to emails and very helpful. We arrived to a fresh bunch of flowers, bottle of wine and welcoming card - thanks very much, Mary, we'd love to come back some day. My mother-in-law described staying at your home as life-enhancing and I agree.

Pefect for our family of 12

We stayed 4 nights with grandparents and three families, ages 6 to 65. The location is wonderful, easy walking distance to the Pacific Grove shops and several restaurants as well as Lovers Point. Even our 6-yr-old could walk to Cannery Row and then we used the free shuttle to get to the wharf in Monterey. That made it possible for us to spend a day out together without any driving. The house worked really well for our extended family.,, plenty of plates, mugs, silverware, etc. Several routine spices were there already, making it possible for us to cook easily and just purchase the main ingredients. There is a fenced, grassy lawn in the back where kids could play, several sitting areas inside the house (some with TV's, some without), and a deck in the back with enough chairs to fit us all around the firepit. We were a little concerned ahead of time about only 2 bathrooms, but that worked out fine since we all got up at different times. And even though bed size situation wasn't ideal for our group (more twins than we needed), but we knew ahead of time about the sizes, etc, and were prepared. Having so many bedrooms gave each family the privacy they wanted at night. There is plenty of space to spread out, with several rooms with enough furniture for us to be together. Mary was a dream to work with, and we really felt we made the right choice for our family reunion. Thank you for making our trip possible.

Great location for our family get-together!

Our family of 12, including 6 children, had a delightful vacation in this historic well-lit beautiful home. Mary answered all of our questions before booking and we were pleasantly greeted by Liane on our arrival. The large kitchen plus extra dining area gave us enough cooking and eating space, the hot tub and fenced backyard with fire pit were well used, and the cold July evenings even had us turning on the gas fireplace in the living room! We managed fine with only 2 bathrooms as well. There is a nearby local grocery store which is VERY neighborly, and the house is well-situated in town - walking distance to the little downtown, Lover's Point beach, and the Aquarium. The house certainly met all of our needs and is a good choice for those with children as well.

A Beautiful House, I will be returning!

I was privileged to stay in this Lovely Lady during my reunion on the Peninsula. This is an amazing house, so authentic and well maintained in beautiful Pacific Grove. The amenities are suited for large family gathering. The location is perfect being within 20 minutes of just about everything on the Peninsula. I highly recommend that you book your vacation here and bring your family. I will definitely be returning. I feel so fortunate to have been able to stay. Thank you.

THE BEST!

This was a terrific week for all eleven of our family reunion gang. The Victorian was perfect in all aspects-- very spacious, wonderfully furnished, well stocked, in a location convenient to everything, and very enjoyable amenities in the front and back. Working with Mary and her "meet and greeters" was a pleasure. You couldn't ask for better attention to our needs and happiness. This was by far the best venue we have had for our reunions, and we can recommend it without reservation. Thanks Mary.

Perfect home for a perfect reunion!

After traveling from California to Minnesota for family reunions year after year, we challenged our siblings and spouses to make it happen in Gilroy this year to coincide with the Garlic Festival. The challenge was accepted and we were faced with locating a vacation home that would accommodate 13 adults! We couldn't have been luckier to find the home of Mary Looram in Pacific Grove. Staying in this old Victorian was as comfortable as being at home. It is well equipped with everything one would need, save for food and drinks, which we picked up in Pacific Grove immediately upon settling in at the house. Our family spent hours gathered around the spacious dining room table, cooking together in the kitchen, snuggled up around the firepit and lots of chats in front of the fire in the cozy living room. The bedrooms easily accommodated all 13 of us and even though there are only two bathrooms, it all worked out nicely.

Of course, being on the coast was quite a thrill for a bunch of Minnesotans and Mary's home is only a few blocks walk down to the water. Trips south to Point Lobos and Big Sur were a big hit and nearby Pacific Grove and Monterey offers many wonderful eateries.

Mary is also very generous with suggestions of things to do in the area and is such a gracious hostess. Correspondence with her before, during and after our stay was like talking with a friend you'd known for years. If you want to feel like you're right at home while on vacation, this beautiful Victorian is a gem of a find! I have a feeling this could become an annual event!

Great house, great location, great vacation!

This was our first time using Home Away and it was a GREAT experience from start to finish. Mary kept in touch via email from the first day I contacted her. She went above and beyond to ensure that my family would have all that we needed.

The house is amazing...well-stocked and plenty of room to accomodate our two families. The backyard is beautiful and so peaceful. The location is perfect - most things are in walking distance. The house had plenty to keep all of our children (ages 4-16) entertained and happy. Having a comfortable home was so much better than a hotel. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing vacation that has all of the comforts of home!

During your visit be sure to check out the Aquarium and Asilomar Beach. If you have small children, Dennis the Menace Park was great. For the adults, I highly suggest dinner at The Inn at Spanish Bay. Get there early and have a cocktail around the firepits so you can hear the bagpipes played on the golf course.

Thank you so much, Mary! Your home is wonderful and I am so grateful that you were willing to share it with us. We certainly had a great time in Pacific Grove and created memories that will last a lifetime. We would love to visit again in the future!!

Great historic home with modern amenities!

Rented this house for a family gathering and it worked perfectly for our needs! We had 9 adults staying in the home over a weekend and we were very happy with our stay. Even before we arrived at the house, the home owner and property manager were very friendly and easy to coordinate with. For us, renting a house like this is much better than staying at a hotel because of the big common areas for us to hang out in, nice kitchen with gas stove for us to cook a family meal, and fun fire pit in the backyard to relax during late summer nights. Another huge plus is the WiFi at the house.

Besides the actual house, the location is great. Lots of cute bakeries and shops nearby, in addition to the convenience of local supermarkets. Easy access to Carmel, Big Sur and Monterey. Wish we had stayed for more than a weekend. Would definitely stay here again!

Church Staff Retreat

Our team of 5 couples had a wonderful and relaxing time in this spacious Victorian home. All of the necessary amenities were available. The 'family atmosphere' of the home added to our comfort. The kitchen worked well for us to share the responsibilities and the living room was warm and inviting, We loved the open fire pit on the back deck...a great place to have good chats. The location of the home is within walking distance to downtown Pacific Grove and to the ocean.
For some folks, the inconsistent internet connection might be a challenge, but we chose to "unplug" for our time of rest and refreshing. I highly recommend this home.

Thanksgiving Wedding Reception

We rented this house for our Thanksgiving wedding this past November and it was absolutely perfect! We live a few blocks away ourselves, but wanted a place for our out of town family/friends to stay and a place for everyone to meet and gather. This corner house on Willow Street is simply magnificent, everything we were looking for and more.

The house is set up to entertain, with a spacious kitchen, large dining room table and plenty of serving dishes. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving here with 20 people. Everyone enjoyed being able to help cook part of the meal! We even used the charcoal grill out back. And the hot tub that night!

It was easy for everyone to explore the area and see all the sights even for those without a car. Walks to Lover's Point and along the beach trail to the Aquarium were daily routines.

On the day of our wedding we set up the backyard with tables and chairs and a few decorations and hosted 35 friends and family. There isn't much needed to add to this house! The first floor has a beautiful large sitting room, the stereo system plays throughout the house, and the upstairs TV room/lounge allows guests to sneak off and watch football and makes the perfect spot to gather all the kids. We used the dinning room to serve a buffet, the kitchen to serve desserts and coffee, and the back deck for dancing and s'mores by the fire.

There was more than enough space inside and out for everyone. The house is an excellent place to host a large get together.

By far our favorite feature of the house was the fire pit on the back porch, which became the focal point of every night we stayed in the house. It was really a blast as our reception wound down for everyone to sit around the fire and enjoy the warmth on that brisk November night.

We really can’t say enough positive things about The Old Victorian Lady; it was the perfect place for our friends and family to celebrate with us. Even if we hadn’t used it as the venue for our reception it would still have been an amazing place to house the wedding party and enjoy for the week that everyone was visiting. I am looking forward to someday renting this house again!

Thank you Mary (the owner) you went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed for our stay and for our reception! We honestly could not ask for anything more and if we did Mary would have found a way to make it happen. LOVE LOVE LOVE this house on Willow!

The Perfect House

Selecting a vacation rental for a family reunion is not an easy task.
There were 14 of us with a span of ages from 2 to 66.
We arrived in four packed SUV's with 16 bikes, two surf boards, and numerous baby strollers.
We descended on 226 Willow like a swarm of bees.

The house could not have been better for our needs.
The location was perfect, the layout of the house was great for a family with diverse needs.

Mary (owner of the house) had shared with me earlier that this was in fact their family home. All five of their children were raised in this house so yes, it was and is child friendly.
Some of the favorite rooms included the kitchen with a large circular table, great cooking appliances, and plenty of pantry space which also occupied the washer and dryer.
The second most occupied room was the upstairs TV/play room which comes with games, two comfortable sofas, and a large TV.
The two outdoor spaces, both front and back were used all of the time by all members of the family.
The house comes totally equipped with linens, bedding, and a great library which doubles as a office.

We all loved being in this house and for some reason I sense the house loves having families occupy it.

My husband and I were the last two in the house waiting to be checked out and we looked at one another and said...well maybe we could stay here longer, just the two of us...
Great property!

Wonderful Home in a Wonderful Town

We stayed here for three nights, i wish we had more time at this home away from home. To start with, the host was very gracious and helpful. We were met with flowers and bottle of wine and a list of things to do and places to eat.

The house is beautiful Victorian home and is very well kept. We loved the OLD feeling and yet all the modern conveniences. We were a diversified family with my sister ( 70 years old) and our young adult kids ranging from 20 to 30 years age. We instantly loved the house. First thing you notice is the library filled with wonderful books and lots of comfortable couches to snuggle up with blankets ( provided for) and books. All of us found our favorite rooms and couches. My sister loved the downstairs bedroom and the kids loved the upstairs rooms as well as the common area where they could plays games ( also provided for) and make noises.

By far the best place was backyard with bird feeder , flowers and the hot tube and fire pit. We soaked in the tub, listened to guitars played by my daughter's boyfriend sitting by the fire pit and watched the milky way go by. There were plenty of towels, sheets and plenty of everything. Kitchen was well stocked and the dinning tables large enough to sit the family for formal dinner as well as casual breakfast. We loved the bright and sunny feeling of the house.

Last thing is location : I can not emphasize enough how much we enjoyed the location. We walked everywhere. Took long strolls along the ocean and beautiful flower covered paths near the lover's point. We walked to the quint town of Pacific Grove ( two blocks) for breakfast , coffee and just to hang out and see the historic homes. We walked to the Aquarium as well as to Fishermen's Wharf for dinner and Whale Watching.
In short, it is a wonderful place at a wonderful locations. I will recommend it to any one with large group. It does have something for all age groups. We will love to come again next year.

A perfect wedding!

We rented this house so family and extended family from all over globe could be together to prepare for and have a wedding. We could not have picked a more perfect rental. Right from the beginning Mary was peach to deal with. She helped us "plan" a wedding from across the country. When we arrived we could not have been happier. The house is so well laid out for intimate conversations or a party! The bedrooms were perfect for us and were very welcoming. The backyard was an excellent venue for the wedding and reception....or just relaxing. We stayed here 10 days and the only negative thing I could possibly say is that it wasn't long enough!
