Vacation Rental Description
Located in the popular holiday area of the Banks peninsula close to the historic and picturesque seaside town of Akaroa in the foothills of the 2 volcano's that dominate the area. The area has a distinct French influence and the local Duvauchelle hotel is famous for its architecture, hospitality and happy hours! With a very temperate climate, the area extremely mountainous with countless beautiful coves and villages. There are hundreds of miles of well marked walks and fishing, boating, swimming, golf and many wonderful driving experiences are available on the doorstep. You could explore the area for weeks without seeing everything. There are also many local community events throughout the year. Both the local bistro and hotel offer superb hospitality (food and drink) within easy walking distance and the locals are incredibly welcoming and even speak our lingo (well almost!) Eating and drinking out is cheaper than the UK - as are most things.

Other: There is a superb large terrace overlooking the golf course (watch out for stray ball from the 16th tee!) with gas BBQ and large oval table/6chairs and a wooden table/benches.
Cleaning/towels/linen/maid service: The property is locally managed by a lettings company in Akaroa. Towels and linen are provided at a fixed charge of £5 per bed set and £3 per towel set (for each change required during your stay). Interim cleaning can be arranged at extra cost.
Outside:
There is a large driveway with parking for several cars. Also a mature garden with a lawned area, a cactus garden and many flower beds and shrubs containing many interesting native species. There is also a large peach tree. At the bottom of the garden is a style leading directly onto the golf course (16th fairway). This can also be used as a shortcut to the seafront/bistro/hotel in one direction and to the golf clubhouse.
Activities
Coast/Beach:
There are many local coves with sandy beaches ideal for swimming & fishing.
The beach at Duvauchelle is not suitable for swimming and is used primarily for boating & fishing. The town of Akaroa is a fairly major tourist resort. Cruise ships often visit the natural harbour. Supermarket & cashpoint nearby.
Golf:
The course is very well established with some beautiful old trees and water features. It is quite hilly with some superb signature holes and fantastic views of the surrounding mountains & coast. It is not long but not too short either and would suit golfers at all levels. Has a very active membership and has a proper clubhouse with changing rooms, showers & - most importantly of all - bar!
The 18 hole green fee is around 28NZD (approx £12), the beer is cheap & the natives are extremely friendly!
Skiing:
Skiing is available in the winter season (July/Aug) in the ski resorts to the west of Christchurch (3hr drive).
Travel Options
- Travel Info: Travel: Christchurch airport is around 1.5 hrs drive. It is sometimes easier/cheaper to fly to Auckland and catch a connecting air 'shuttle'. These are frequent and cost around NZD 60 (£25) per person each way. Christchurch shopping malls are around 1 hr drive and there are countless scenic drives around the coast and volcano.
For 2011 world cup rugby, the Christchurch stadiums are within easy reach.
