Vacation Rental Description
This cute and colorful Mexican rental casita is one house back from the beautiful beach of Chuburna--the best for miles around. About 15 minutes from Progreso. You can swing in one of the hammocks, drink cold Mexican beers or margaritas from the fridge, and watch the pelicans fly overhead. If you are looking for a place to unwind and unplug from the stresses of regular life, this house is an inexpensive prescription.
You can walk for miles on this beach and have it all to yourself on most times of the year. You’ll find an amazing number of different seashells in all shapes and sizes, plus a glowing sunrise and sunset each day. Chuburna is a sleepy Yucatan fishing village with some good seafood restaurants and plenty of peace and quiet.
This is not a fancy house with loads of media distractions, but it is quite comfortable and is located a few blocks from the town square. You can walk to every place in town from here. A combi (minivan) service runs between here and Progreso on the half hour, though a rental car makes life much easier for excursions and grocery shopping.
(Note--at least a smattering of Spanish is required on this coast, or the ability to do well with a phrase book and pantomine!)
Here's what past guests had to say:
This is a wonderful house in a wonderful village. The people are
extremely friendly and patient with those of us with poor Spanish.
- Lynette and John - Nova Scotia, CAN
What a wonderful house you have. It was perfect for us and our
18-month son. The people in Chuburna were extremely nice, especially
when they saw our son Matt. Thank you for renting your place to us!
- Kara, Mike, and Matt - New Hampshire, USA
We came here thinking we’d spend some time at the house and then go
trucking off to see the ruins and nearby towns. Boy were we wrong! We
dropped our bags the first morning and are only moving them now to pack.
- Meg and William - Guanajuanto, Mexico and California, USA
What a wonderful week we had. Your home is quaint and charming and the
pescado frito in the restaurant at the end of the block is amazing.
- Mary and Barry - Michigan, USA
Thank you so much for renting your beautiful casita to us. It was so
nice to be here, to enjoy the peace, the calm, and the people. So much
better than the tourist resorts: no one even tried to sell us a condo!
The caretakers were great and the fish we ate was the best ever.
- Dean, Paula, and Sandi - Alberta, Canada
Often we were the only people on the beach. We didn’t have a car, but
the bus service was very reasonable and enjoyable. (And it helped us
work on our Spanish.)
- Steve and Nancy - Ontario, Canada
What a fabulous place to stay—the trip has been a perfect “Mexican
experience.” This is something my children will always remember.
- Brian and Courtney - Ohio, USA

Chuburna itself is a mellow kick back and be lazy town, with no tourist resorts around. Progreso is more active since it has some hotels and is a cruise ship stop. For good shopping and nightlife, however, you need to go to the main city of Merida, which is about 45 minutes to the historic center.
The house is about 25 minutes from a flamingo viewing area, and about a half hour from an all-inclusive resort that has day passes available. It can be a good base for exploring the great city of Merida, lots of different Mayan ruins, haciendas, and more.
