Vacation Rental Description
Tile, art nouveau wrought iron, stone, brick, stucco and hand-made Mexican furniture-- this is our dream second home. Solar tubes bring sunlight into the kitchen and dining room, and a fountain bubbles in the courtyard as you sip a cappuccino. The sun beckons you to a chaise lounge on the roof deck, with a view of the surrounding hills, rooftops and city.
Each bedroom has its own bath with tub and shower, with a mini-bidet in the master bath and a walk-in closet in the master bedroom. All water is purified with ultraviolet and activated charcoal, and the hot water is plentiful.
Ceilings in the master bedroom and dining room are arched brick, known as boveda. A skylight in the master bath provides cross ventilation and a view of the sky when you shower or bathe.
Above the master bedroom is the azotea, a covered terrace with two open walls, stone columns, a gas fireplace and a mini fridge. A 6-foot wrought iron screen is patterned on a Picasso etching of artist and model. This is the spot for a quiet read in the afternoon and drinks at sunset.
The house is five minutes from San Miguel's two major markets. The food market is filled with wonderful fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers, and the artisan's market has dozens of stalls filled with rugs, ceramics, metalwork, leather goods, clothing and jewelry, most sold by the families who made it.
Another five minutes (all level) brings you to the Jardin, the heart of San Miguel. Several excellent restaurants are a five to ten minute walk from the house, and the kitchen is well equipped to create wonderful dinners from the bounty of the area. The famous hot springs are five minutes by taxi.
Day trips include the potteries of Dolores Hidalgo, the exotic stone landscape of Pozos Minerales and the amazing reserve where the Monarch butterflies return each year from their journeys to Canada and the US.
Some guests comments:
"What a treat it was to spend a month here – convenient location, great layout, and beautiful décor. Fine architectural details set the house apart; we never grew tired of looking at it. We loved the location – a brisk 7-minute walk to the center of town. In addition, being in a cul-de-sac meant quietness. Numerous small shops dot our daily walk, making it a delight in exploring and discovery. Visiting friends put the guest room to test. They loved it and, as we did, marveled at the beauty of the house. Free technology such as Vonage phone and WIFI sure made staying in touch with family and friends easy. We feel fortunate to have chosen this house as our home away from home – the comfort, beauty, and the owner’s hospitality made our visit to San Miguel most memorable."
"Everything was great. The house was very well equipped for cooking in, there were plenty of linens and it was very comfortable. Javier was responsive to any questions we had and had excellent follow up. It actually ended up being a great location for our family and was kid friendly. Nicholas (our 5 1/2 year old) played outside with the local kids every day and the fact that the house was on a dead end made it easy for us as parents to let him play outside without worry. the place was perfect for us and we'd recommend it."
"Our stay in this beautiful home can be summed up in one word, HEAVENLY. The sound of the courtyard fountain, the ultra-comfy beds, and the open-air setting was incredibly refreshing. We slept late, ate breakfast on the terrace, and had a difficult time leaving the comforts of the house for day trips. Everything was absolutely exceptional from the cleanliness to the decor! The location was perfect- a short walk to shops and restaurants and we always felt very safe. We felt as though we had our own luxury Mexican Villa for the price of an American hotel room. We can't wait to return!!"

Instead of a beach, San Miguel is blessed with natural hot springs 5 minutes from the house by taxi. Spend the day lying in sun or shade, drifting in and out of pools ranging from cool to hot-tub temperature. In the 'caves', water cascades over your back and shoulders like a warm massage. Some springs have shops and good restaurants.
Instituto Allende and Bellas Artes offer art and dance classes, and there is a thriving English-language theater and two cinematheques showing classic films.
There are many ways to learn or improve your Spanish, from intensive courses to informal conversation sessions with Mexicans who want to practice their English. There are also several excellent Mexican cooking classes.
