Casita Laurita, built in 2008, is an architectural gem centrally located on one of San Miguel’s best loved streets, Calle Loreto. Open the door to this seemingly small house in the Centro and be amazed at the gorgeous, light, airy, beautifully-appointed casita, with terrace gardens, a gourmet kitchen, and plenty of places to lounge. A convenient base to explore all of San Miguel de Allende, you may never want to leave the house.

Casita Laurita was featured in the New York Times "Great Homes and Destinations" column, and also featured in the San Miguel de Allende house tour.

Built on three stories with terraces on top, the 2-bedroom, 2.5-bath house is an easy and flat walk to the jardin, near language schools, and steps away from the town’s famous artisan market.

The 1000-sq-ft house is Mexican modern style, built around a central courtyard, with clean design and exquisite details. The house has up-to-date amenities (iPod docks, flat-screen TV, wireless) and dreamily comfortable beds. The top terrace has a lovely 360-degree view of San Miguel and its famous Parroquia church. A second patio with lounge chairs is private and cozy, perfect for dreaming, surrounded with lavender, jasmine, and other scented potted plants.

Laura Fraser is the author of the bestselling travel memoirs An Italian Affair and All Over the Map. She lived in San Miguel de Allende when she was 10 years old, and returned at 45 to fall in love with the colonial town all over again. She bought a rundown property in the historic centro, and with the help of local architect Anja Fauske, turned it into an architectural gem.
She loves to sit in the studio and write, then go to the nearby local market to buy vegetables to cook dinner in her gourmet kitchen, or try some of San Miguel's many good restaurants.
